I only went to 2 open days, and my recollection is that it was an absolute waste of time. Basically, you stroll around the area, looking at architecture. By the time you have been there a week, you blank out the architecture anyway. The 2 important questions are a) what is the tuition like, and b) what is the food/accommodation like? You might get an idea of the food/accommodation, I suppose, but the chances are quite high that it will not be WYSIWYG. Your chances of finding out anything meaningful about the tuition at an open day are very low.

James wants to go so he can compare to his first choice (although he is not been there yet anyway!) and to get a feel of the place, the surroundings, whether the buildings are suitable for him etc.

Although we tend not to think of his disabilities too much, we do have to take them into consideration, so a place with lots of stairs and no lift available for example, would make things just that little bit more eek for him when he is having a bad dislocation day.

Anyway, it will be a nice day out to a city I have only driven past on the way back from a speedway meeting to my parent's caravan...and without the other two boys, so a bonus!
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

Hmm, sort opf. Some of the poshest people i know have a cheap ford hatchback as well as a landrover. Posh is also most definitely not burning money.

There is also a geographical element to this i think. I relaised this talking to my father. E.g. Out here the sort of 'executive' saloon is decidedly unposh....they are usually ex company cars and sold at car auctions, where as in London the same cars would be quite 'posh'. Here old fords are quite posh. I had a ford for years, bought because it was kinda pretty, not steal worthy, little to park and covered motor way miles very well and even though i loved it i would not cry when people scraped it in london streets.

Tbh, the only thing that matters is choosing things suitable, affordable and pleasurable for ourselves. Anything else is neither posh nor unposh but silly, :)

I've got a '61' plate S-Max, which I don't think is that posh. I'll probably keep it for 2-3 years (I order a new one at 150,000 miles, currently at 62000 in 9.5 months, last one had 174,000) and go from there.

    I don't think they're posh, I just think, at S-Max no.3 now, they're bloomin' good cars!

I have an old one of that make of car (as in the end of the old type of numberplate). I've driven it from new, it still works, rarely breaks, so I don't see any reason to replace it. The worst bit is it has a cassette player. If there's no decent radio station, I have to revert to either a talking book from the library or my 1980s mix tape.
Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

It was a good little car. It's currently being used by my mother (and has about 280,000 miles on it now, as she does 1k/week).

It was an A6 Estate with the same 2.0 diesel that's in a Skoda taxi year you! Great little car!

My dad's unreliable audi has really put me off them. Not only could you se a clock by the time it was in at the garage on monday mornings but the after setvice was imo not obsequious enough considering how bloody unrelable it was.

That said, i would not buy another of what we have.
