Well James could cope with anything to be honest, he is able to function and cope in small and busy places alike, thankfully he does not have the same issues of places being too busy as the other two. We would however, have to factor in his dislocating joints and access issues.
The one we have booked is for his second choice, a place he had not even thought about before he went to a conference on Thursday but he just wants to see properly the surroundings, the university itself and speak to the tutors regarding the course itself before deciding if he really wants it as his second choice or even, if the course is better, his first choice.
In terms of distance, it is not hugely far (certainly closer than his first choice!) but it is in a city, so taking the train would be the less stressful option for me....not a scoobie on other people we can share transport with, Suffolk people are rather funny about sharing details like that!We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -

Don't the kids all know who is going to which open day and when?
DS1 and 2 sometimes went to open days on their own, travelling with others from school.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. I only went to 2 open days, and my recollection is that it was an absolute waste of time. Basically, you stroll around the area, looking at architecture. By the time you have been there a week, you blank out the architecture anyway. The 2 important questions are a) what is the tuition like, and b) what is the food/accommodation like? You might get an idea of the food/accommodation, I suppose, but the chances are quite high that it will not be WYSIWYG. Your chances of finding out anything meaningful about the tuition at an open day are very low.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0

Depending on when you go,you might be able to find out how tolerable the place is to live, and complete the course.
I think there's a kind of a critical mass a town city has where there's a enouhgh students that the locals fit in with them and there's no town vs gown animosity.
There 's car auctions, big enough choice of bedsit lands, markets, laundrettes, charity shops, and all the other things that make life affordable on a budget.
Plus availability of big supermarkets, large discount stores and part-time work.
I'm sure pn knows all too well that affordability goes out the window when you're trying to live economically out in the sticks. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -

When my parents bought their Bergerie in France they bought an old caravan which did the business for several years but the climate was probably on their side.I think....0

DD1 went to all the open days on her own and didn't particularly want us there. That was right for her. Her course didn't require any special physical resources, so there wouldn't have been much to see.
DD2 started looking when she was years away from it. Although I fell very obviously asleep during an introductory talk by the Head of Dept at Aberystwyth, our first port of call, she always required our input.
The open days were far from a waste of time, but DD2's work is very facility-intensive, so it was easy to spot which colleges were best-equipped. We visited the one she's at twice, just to make sure that it was going to deliver in other ways too.0 -

We might go for something like this:
http://unithire.rtrk.co.uk/?scid=26350&kw=6292416&pub_cr_id=5287039675
(Site chosen at random.)
I think we will buy and use afterwards, if possible. Can't have too many sheds!0 -
