Only slightly though ... if you'd had Diet coke you could have had a bar of chocolate too.

Chicken house is the worst to clear out...yeurch.

    Makes good compost though! :D

We have an incontinence sheet for the hens, tailored to the house. That makes removing the poo pretty straighforward, unless the wind's blowing like it is today. Poo, shavings, etc straight into the barrow. ;)

Then, the incontinence sheet goes into a barrel for a wash. The water from the barrel is used on the veg, so nothing's wasted. Anyway, it's not that pongy. :)

For a retch-making honk, there's nothing to beat comfrey water. I've already made the first batch this year, but so far, I can't bring myself to use it in the polytunnel...:rotfl:

I gave up reading, as I purely didn't have time, when I had the kids. (Well, when OH had the kids)

One that I did stop to read (several times over) was 'Danser sur les ruines — Une jeunesse tch!tchène (Dancing on ruins — A Chechen youth).' by Milana Terloeva (it's in French), as it's representative of the childhood we had, and the various problems with Sukhumi (which is where I lived for 8 years, now independent of Georgia) and Gori (where OH spent her first 7 years before moving to Malaga). Both were heavily destroyed in August 2008 by Russia.

I'd like to read that. I've heard of it but it's not currently translated into English. I think I'd struggle to read it in French. I've started reading Asne Seirstadt's A Hundred and One Days about her time in Baghdad. She writes beautifully, and I have for a long time wanted to read her book the Angel of Grozny, which will have to act as my alternate until an English imprint is available.

When I had young children, who needed to go urgently, I would have conversations along the following lines:

My son needs to go to the lavatory.

Sorry, we do not have any customer toilets.

Is there a particular corner of the shop that you would prefer him to pee in?

Sigh, okay, I will take him to the staff toilets.

This worked nearly every time. :)

Libraries are very good at letting small kids use their staff toilets. The difficulties come when the kids start getting dropped off by their parents or told to meet them in the library. Then when they want to use the toilets, we aren't allowed to bring them unaccompanied into our back areas.
The important "E" word didn't occur today ...... no word ... nothing. Another weekend of suspense and wondering....

I also couldn't wander too far from the phones either, "in case" .... even had a shower with the phones just outside the door and the door open.

    Sigh... Hopefully next week Pastures.

i've never looked at this thread before. what is the point of it?

We're all from different backgrounds, except there are 2 stereotypical NP's, and it's nice to have a natter, in confidence, to other NP.

We don't necessarily talk about moneysaving, but what's going on in our lives, suggestions for others and a joke every now and then.

Please feel free to join us with this, but remember to be nice :)

My eldest is 30 and youngest is aged 20, so my experience of all this goes back to a time before it became risky to help children.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Having decided i definitely want the split face marble and dh loving them we definitely chose them today. Went to the stone shop and they said ...oh no, not suitable for a bathroom.

I could weep, i really, really, really want them now.

I asked my dad for you lir, he said that he doesn't know without seeing the marble but it should be possible to seal. You might find this link useful:

Could you find out what type of finish the sealants give and ask the tile company again if you can settle on one that would work for you?

So the archetypal NP is a scientist who loves mushrooms, lives in Herts, is married to a Jew and ... what have I missed out??
...This should answer your question LIR

    Oh you darling.

The issue seems to be two fold.

    1. There is no grout, the marble is just tightly packed on a similar but not identical mesh like a moasaic. This means there can be water ingress between tiles. (other advice i have had is that somethingcalleed a deeta(sp?) mat behind might do, other adice it that it will not and i will have mould and algae growing in there.

    2. To uneven edges mean the build up of scum can be difficult to deal with (this was my initial concern).

I don't think i have to make a decision before some other nice people have seen it. I think i will put the sample in the bathroom between now and then, and see what happens.

Meanwhile i will check your link. I can photo it with e mesh so your dad can see how it works too, its novel, thats for sure. I want it s badly now, but not enough to spend an hour a week cleaning it with a toothbrush.....once a month witha scrubbing brush maybe.:o
