OP - do go back to your GP to get confirmation of your physical symptoms. However do not EXPECT traditional medicine to cure your symptoms - for one thing NHS rationing is rife now & you may well be told "it's your age you will have to live with it/accept these developments as natural" or, in my opinion worse have HRT  suggested/recommended which is basically flooding your body with artificial hormones to `control' it.
I think doing some research of your own is not bad advice & it worked for me.
Arguing that herbal infusions are safe more than justifies the ban on giving medical advice on here. Herbal remedies can be extremely powerful and Herbalists prescribe infusions and tinctures and creams etc appropriately because they understand the effects that different preparations have. Any herb (or food for that matter) that you ingest, even when entirely natural, has an effect on the body. Sometimes the effect is positive or nourishing, sometimes the effect is negative, sometimes it's both. E.G. St John's Wort, very well known and used as a treatment for depression among other things, but side effects can include diarrhoea and sensitivity to sunlight. And there's a long list of commonly prescribed conventional treatments which it shouldn't be combined with.
OP - see a different GP and, if nothing else, ask them to explain why you're being told these symptoms not a hormone imbalance. Sometimes when we're really worried about something it's difficult to fully hear and understand what the GP is saying and ask the appropriate questions so write down a list of your symptoms and the questions you want answering and take it with you.Eat food. I'm so, so glad there are so many sensible people on here. Modern medicines are the tried, tested and proven versions of natural medicine.
That said, I reckon some people would let a witchdoctor treat them rather than a GP...I knew one girl who convinced her mother to come of her chemotherapy (which would have given her 10+ years) and have Reiki instead. She lost her mum six months later after a rapid decline. Very sad...but the Reiki practitioner is still practising.

To be honest though lm 43 and spend more time plucking than ever, it's our age! X
Lovely!! I'm 31 and have been growing a 'beard' for years!
I've plucked, bleached, depilatorised, lasered, threaded, waxed and epilated. Think that's everything I've tried!! lol
Never spoken to Dr about it, preferred to just 'deal with it' myself. Have to say the laser definitely improved a heck of a lot, but had to stop before all the sessions were finished coz I had no money left and neither did the company...

It may be that some kind of supplement may be useful, but it's no good just going out and buying something. You have to find the cause first. Once that's identified via GP then you can decide upon treatment, whether it be herbal or prescription.0

I'm 31 also and battling the beard! Please see your gp to confirm that there are no underlying problems, as I had to be tested for pcos, thyroid function etc. to rule conditions out. The tests came back clear so it's probably my implanon implant or my age, or a combination of both. I'm all for tried and tested herbal remedies and recommendations, but these are by no means safer or more effective than conventional medicine. lots of herbal remedies can have adverse effects, e.g. St johns wort stops the pill from working etc. so be very cautious and discuss your plans with your gp. I'm just waiting to win the lotto to fund some laser surgery...0

As others have said it sounds like it could be PCOS you should start with your GP but they are less likely to refer you for treatment for the symptoms (i.e. hirsuitism) these days due to budget cuts.Miss_Ratty wrote: »I'm 31 also and battling the beard! As you mentioned St Johns wort and laser in the same sentence I should probably add that if you're taking SJW you wont be able to get laser for 6 months after you stop taking it as there can be some serious side effects.0 -

My doc told me that facial hair is normal of people of a certain age due to a the drop in oestrogen levels.
Hubby told me not to worry, if i grow any more hair he wont know whether to sh@g me or take me to the pub. As i'm not really a drinker, i'll stick to the facial wax.
Oh and i didnt find his humour funny. I sulked for hours after. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
