Can you start up in Safe Mode? Basically, you need to run msconfig, find that update in the list, untick it and reboot.

    Cheers DVB,
I will try that (tomorrow, I am on another PC and have to get off now!) and will let you know how I get on. Many Thanks

Boot system in to Safe Mode (keep pressing F8 after switch on)

Go to Start Run... and type msconfig

Look at the startup tab and see if KB891711 is listed; if so, uncheck the box and click apply. Switch off computer and re-boot

Hurray! A result. Many Thanks to everyone, after following your instructions (and changing my USB Keyboard & Mouse to the other type!) got it sorted. Again many thanks from Mr Technophobe, now about that Videoplus on the Betamax Video Recorder.........
