Ending mobile contract / PAC codes etc

Contract ends on Aug 15th, so I understand I need to give notice to terminate a month before this on 15 July.
However, what if I want to request a PAC code? Does the date of PAC code request count as the months notice? So if I request one in 15th July I'll pay up until 15th Aug anyway.
I know that if you dont use the PAC code within a month it expires though, doesnt it?
What's the best plan to use a PAC code in this way?
Request one 15th July and then use it swap to another phone near 15th August? Dont want to leave it too late and miss the month expiring though..... but then dont want to have to pay for two contracts for too long.

Give it to the new network a few day before the 15th Aug.So if I request one in 15th July I'll pay up until 15th Aug anyway.

On a similar note, I am having trouble with Three with 3 months remaining on my contract.
I have decided to get a new contract elsewhere and request a PAC as it's essential I keep my number (it's a business phone), but would rather not cancel the contract with Three as I would struggle to pay it off in one hit.
Is it fair and reasonable to request a PAC, but insist on the contract running its course with either no number or a temporary number attached to it?0 -
Weeman, the contract would end once the port took place, so therefore Three would ask for the contract to be paid up. It wouldn't be able to run for another three months, it would have to be paid in one go.0

OK, cheers. Guess I'll have to stick it on the credit card and add it to the claim I'm making against them!0

Am I right in saying if I requested a PAC, assuming its after July 15th as well, I've still got to pay for the month regardless of when the number is moved over?
Of course, if I give the PAC to new network a few days before I want to make sure they've got enough time to process or it'll be a new PAC and another month to wait.0 -
Your assumption is correct.0
