Was it T-shirt weather, Incapuppy? (Egypt is favourite..)

Yes, most definitely! Some days sightseeing I wore long trousers and long sleeved kaftan type tops but that was out of respect of the locals and also not wishing to burn on long days out.

Plenty of bikini weather too although at that time of year (Iwas guided by a friend who visits several times each year) you may wish to choose accommodation with a heated pool.

It gets dark quite quickly late afternoon/early evening and therefore the temperature drops but I didn't need anything more than a cardi or light fleece for the evenings.

If you like a good drink, drink costs in the bar of your hotel can mount up as most hotel accomodation is on B&B or HB basis, although the Pyramis Isis (?) did used to offer an AI option. Unless things have changed you should be able to visit the Luxor duty free shop (in town) within 24 hours of arrival to stock up on alcohol.

If you are looking at going for 2 weeks I think I would do a Nile Cruise followed by either a week in Luxor or a week at a quieter resort on the Red Sea.

We stayed at the Sofitel Karnak as recommended by my friend and were very pleased with our choice. It is in a lovely quiet position on the banks of the Nile a couple of miles outside Luxor itself so you are not subjected to the noise or boat fumes as you might be bang in the centre.

There was a free boat and minibus service to and from Luxor several times daily and a taxi was only about £2 or less each way anyway.

    Thank you.

Sorry, T-shirt weather wasn't the best choice of phrase, maybe long sleeved T-shirt weather...

That sounds perfect, wearing a light fleece in the evening.

Thanks very much. Time to start saving!

The Med can be quite cold in December and January, even Egypt. we were in Egypt in January a couple of years ago and it was freezing. In my opinion the place to go is the Caribbean. Barbados, Grenada, or any of the other popular islands. That was out traditional bolthole in January and the temperature is fantastic and no danger of hurricanes at that time of the year.

The Canaries are a close second in my opinion but you are taking a chance on the weather remaining warm. It can also rain quite heavily there for extended periods.

I was in Mexico last year - although we came back home on 23 December, the holiday was about £1000 cheaper than usual as I should imagine that most people wouldn't take a holiday then as they wouldn't want to miss the build up to Christmas. We stayed at one of the Riu Hotel's in Cancun & went AI, so you can drink as much as you like & your fridge gets stocked up in your room every day too. Also with the Riu if you stay in one hotel you can use all facilities of the other 3 near-by Rius too. There's absolutely loads to do too. Here's where we stayed - http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_Review-g150812-d265897-Reviews-Riu_Lupita_Hotel-Playa_del_Carmen_Yucatan_Peninsula.html
