Any suggestions for Christmas holiday?

I have an inclination to go abroad for Christmas. OH is in ageement. I suggested Egypt and that swung it because he would much prefer to be in the warm.

I'm not sure that Egypt will be that warm and wondered had anyone been anywhere great (or awful) at Christmas and if so where.

To me Egypt is the pyramids etc, not the red sea with a beach resort or great scuba diving.

I want somewhere warm, T-shirt weather but ideally not too hot to walk around, plenty to see either natural or man made but not too active or sporty. I am interested in what you enjoyed, though.

I'm looking for value for money rather than cheap, but the price of alcohol will be an issue as we do enjoy a drink.

The pyramids are in Cairo for the other cultural stuff you need luxor/nile cruise.

Was it T-shirt weather, Incapuppy? (Egypt is favourite..)

Budget: Depends. Plenty of time to save by then. Could go up to a couple of thousand each, but want to feel like I am getting a good deal.

The advantage with going at Christmas is could go for a fortnight.

What were the drinks prices like on the cruise and could you take alcohol on board with you? I have heard this can be a problem with cruises. (I was looking at a Norwegian cruise at the time, where the basic price was really good but the bar was a rip off.)

Demand is high at Christmas and this means prices go up, so you may only get that feeling if you consider the price in the context of high demand.

If I consider it on the basis that a fortnight any other time of the year would be very difficult workwise, which is sadly the case, it won't be so bad, but I suppose that depends on how much higher.

If you go to places like the canaries you are taking a gamble on the shorts & t-shirts weather. Have been there at new year and it's been too chilly to be out by the pool. How "guaranteed" do you want the warmth? The answer to that would be my first steer in finding a destination.

Too much rain would be a disappointment. If it was warm enough that some people would be happy in a T-shirt that would mean my OH would be, so he would be happy with that. As long as usually you could expect it to be T-shirt weather, I'd feel that I'd considered that.

Everything is close enough that you will not need a car, night life is terrific, food is excellent, people are friendly and enough things to do and tours in and around the city to keep you occupied for up to about 10 days.
