    Sorry, but I also think that unless the boy is very young (early stages of primary), the family should be paying. Where I live, the school and local authorities don't necessarily own the school buildings and when they don't, have to pay through the nose for ANY damage to the fabric of the building.

    Money is put aside for such eventualities but, when not used that year, can be redistributed and has actually been of huge benefit to the school community - in such cases, why should others lose out because one family won't take responsibility for a child's conduct? In my opinion, this would be taking liberties with other people's money - tax payers' - and a fixed budget calulated on the basis of a school roll (a certain amount of money per pupil). Children have to be made aware of their responsibilities to themselves, their families and the wider community.
