Thanks for this, but I'd only topped up the oil less than a month ago when the check oil light came on. I asked the mechanic if there was anything I could have done differently to prevent what happened And he told me it was just one of those things unfortunately. Just bad luck!
your mechanic should change occupations:)0 -
Check oil lights come on early, well before the engine is dry.
99.9 percent of cars have an oil pressure switch, when the idiot light comes on its game over for most engines and especially if you carry on driving while it makes helicopter noises
the reason the engine had a hole in it was because a conrod had made a bid for freedom
dipsticks are so called because some people dont know what they are for
op says they checked theirs a month earlier then goes on to say mechanic said it was just one of those things
now would you let a so called mechanic loose on your car if he came out with a statement like than when the block has a thumping hole in it?
i hear some things but this one should be on a billboard,i hope i never break down in ilkley0 -
UNLESS they have one of those silly electronic dipstick things, in which case I believe there are two lights, the additional one being 'the dipstick is a bit low, please top up when you have a minute' one.99.9 percent of cars have an oil pressure switch, when the idiot light comes on its game over for most engines and especially if you carry on driving while it makes helicopter noises

OP find yourself a good local independent garage and a reconditioned engine from a reputable supplier. If you want to fix it that is.0 -
Well, things do happen, the engine is dead now, no point worrying about how it got there.......
I'd keep your oil level checked in the future now though, but I'm sure you've learned that lesson!
Get it fixed!

give these guys a call and see how much to supply an engine, tell them you just want a 'decent' unit to get the car up and running,BUT also look for other prices.

Why the heck would you ignore any new noise, especially one that's loud enough to be easily noticeable and sounds like a helicopter?! It's obvious that's not a good thing.

Nevermind, turn the radio up and forget about it “I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

to be honest, i suspect that once the engine is making chinook noises it's FUBR so really the only difference stopping immediately makes is whether the engine that ends up in the recycling bit has an interesting con rod shaped hole in the block or not0

If you supply a 2nd hand engine to a garage and they fit it, But later turns out to be useless or wrong somehow. The garage will still want paying.
You need to buy with care, Even if you buy an engine from the same model / same year there maybe differences.
Some maybe small items to swap over but others maybe not worth the effort.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
