Car engine gone- advice required
I'm just looking for some advice as I've no idea what to do with my car. It's a Nissan Micra 54 Auto, and last week the engine blew.
Green flag picked me up and brought the car home, and the mechanic said it will need a new engine. A new engine will likely cost up to £1500, and the cars only worth probably £2500 max.
We were planning on selling it anyway, but I don't know where to start selling it in the condition it's now in, or what kind of price to expect.
Can anyone offer any advice?

As I was driving the engine started making a loud 'helicopter' sound, like the propellers- don't know how else to describe it sorry! Then after a couple of miles it made an almighty bang and started smoking. When the Greenflag mechanic had a look under the bonnet there's now a big hole under there- I know nothing about cars sorry so really can't explain what's happened to it!Happiness can be found in even the darkest of places, if one only remembers to turn on the light - Albus Dumbledore

youve explained it perfectly, yep the engine is boogered,
you should be able to get a secondhand engine for 4-500 pounds maybe less, plus another couple of hundred to fit,
if the car has been ok up to now it may be worth doing,
if sold 'as is' then you might be lucky to get 4-500 for itI

Thanks for that, I'm quite shocked I thought I might get more than that if I sold it 'as is'!
Where should I be looking for a second hand engine? eBay? How would I transport it to the garage?
Would I be able to have a new engine put in then sell the car for its normal value? Or would it having a second engine decrease the value?
Is there nothing my insurance is likely to help with?
Sorry for all the questions, but I think you clearly know what you're talking about!Happiness can be found in even the darkest of places, if one only remembers to turn on the light - Albus Dumbledore

you possibly could, but I dont think it would be a great deal more simply because a 'normal' buyer would want a car that is working and a trader would want a profit, but it might be worth trying it on ebay with a reserve
ebay is probably the easiest or a breakers that specialise in nissans(not 24.7 spares etc on google)and you would get the engine delivered by courier
there would be no detrimental affect on the value of the car,in fact if the newer engine has done less mileage it could make it easier to sell
sadly no, they wouldnt helpI

Try Here for second hand Nissan parts (Leeds)
Only dealt with them once about 8 years ago but they were very helpful.0 -
yes me please
get a bus pass as you shouldnt be driving if an engine making helicopter noises is ignored with gay abandon
your engine had no oil
Thanks for this, but I'd only topped up the oil less than a month ago when the check oil light came on. I asked the mechanic if there was anything I could have done differently to prevent what happened And he told me it was just one of those things unfortunately. Just bad luck!Happiness can be found in even the darkest of places, if one only remembers to turn on the light - Albus Dumbledore

I think the fact you ran the engine dry might have had more of a contribution than 'luck'.0
