    CCD Failure/Lens Cap Warning Error

JVC has received reports that in certain circumstances, the following models may, while in the camera mode, show no picture, a distorted picture and/or display “LENS CAP” even though the lens cap is removed. We have identified the probable cause as a failure of the CCD image sensor. Repairs of units exhibiting these problems as a result of a defect in the CCD image sensor will be made free of charge at a JVC Authorised Service Centre even if the unit is outside warranty.
Please call our Consumer Support Department on 0870-330-5000 to obtain your free repair. We apologise for any inconvenience and we appreciate your understanding and support.
Please note that this offer expires on 30th June 2008 and is applicable only to failure of the CCD image sensor.
This information applies to the following models:

  • Unbelievable!! Another great money saving tip from Martin.
I last used my JVC Camcorder at Christmas, and got it back out for my kids, to film themselves dancing to High School Musical. The picture was crackly and it said the LENS CAP was still on. Then B##lcked the kids for messing with daddy's camera and sent them to bed. Checked next day for repair centres on google and was directed to here, amazingly!
Phoned up JVC, no probs, currier coming on Monday!! Happy Days!
Should I tell the Kids though it wasnt there fault?!
  • Thanks so much for this tomos mine has just started to play up and as i've only used it half dozen times wasn't impressed even though i've had it for about 4 years when my son was born . gonna get hold of them and see what they say

We bought ours in America will they still repair it?
  • Came across this thread while using Google to seek out a repair specialist for my JVC camcorder.
I phoned JVC and explained my problem was the same as described here and that i no longer had the receipt as i had bought it 3yr ago and saw no reason to keep it this long. The guy was very helpful and said it was no problem about the reciept and put the repair through for me anyway. Getting it picked up on Monday, so don't worry all out there who can no longer find a reciept. Seems they understand that no-one keeps them forever. They did say i may need to have a reciept for the repair company they use but when i called them to arrange a pick-up and mentioned about no reciept they said they weren't bothered as long as they had an Authorisation Number from JVC then that was enough for them.
