  • I think a text that comes from a different country includes their international dialling code so try checking the sender details? I get texts from abroad from my parents etc and that is what happens then.

All texts include the international dialling code as a prefix to the phone number (you wont notice this if you've already stored the number in phone)

Therefore, all texts sent from a UK sim will have the +44 prefix whether it is sent from the UK or not.

So if it is sent from a UK sim whilst that sim is abroad it will still appear with same prefix

And some other services allow sms to be sent over the ordinary or wap internet with a caller ID as if they came from the phone (the ID needs to be confirmed in advance), so the phone itself may not even be switched on.

So as long as the number is stored it will show up as just a name/number where as if not stored, it will show up with the international dialing code and a number?

    Depends on the phone.
Some phones display just the name saved in your phonebook, others display both the name and number.

If the number is displayed, it usually has the +44 prefix at the beginning if it was sent from UK sim (irrespective of where the person was when they sent the text)

If text was sent via internet or wap then it depends on which particular service was use, but as redux points out the caller ID can be set on some services (once mobile number verified)
