Cheap way of calling non-geo numbers

I have a PAYG phone (O2), and I don't have a landline. I tend to spend a lot of my time 'on the road'.
However, from time to time I sometimes have to call 'non-geo' numbers which are basically very expensive from any mobile.
If I'm near a payphone or someone's landline (and they let me use it) and the number's a freephone one (i.e. 0500, 0800, 0808), all well and good.
Things start getting tricky when it's an 0844/0845/0870/0871 number, and I usually I have to beg my parents to ring an 0844 or 0845 number (but they are on Orange and get free 0845/0870 calls at the weekend).
I used to have a Mastercomm phonecard which I could call non-geo numbers from and it would only charge me about 8p a minute, the same as landlines. It looks as though they've gone out of business though.
Before you ask, yes I am aware of the saynoto0870 website, but it can't always help with what I'm looking for.
I'm after a phonecard that would hopefully be able to give me cheap access to non-geo numbers please. Otherwise I'm going to have to look at maybe getting a landline (although I'm looking at moving anyway).
Thanks if anyone can help with this.

If there was such a simple solution, Martin would have recommended it years ago.
There isn't and that is why companies', GPs', NHS hospitals', HMRC's and other government departments' use of such numbers to make money from customers, patients and taxpayers is such a disgrace.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
This prepaid account offers reasonable rates to 084/087 numbers
http://www.savacalldirect.com/countrydetail.aspx?country_id=216
Access via a geographical number but unless you have inclusive minutes you would have to add the cost of calling the access number.
It also gives you free freephone access.0 -

Those phone call charges aren't reasonable, they're bloody outrageous!
So far, I've managed to evade having to pay for any 08** number by the use of Saynoto0870, free evening and weekend BT calls, or just not ringing the damn things. There is always an alternative, usually the internet or another company doing the same thing.
Interestingly, I was doing a survey for YouGov today and one of the questions was something like "Does using an 084* number raise or lower your opinion of the organisation being called? Maybe the message is at last getting through to these money grabbing organisations!"There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0 -
Get Giffgaff sim card. so calls to 0800 number would be free.
Than sign up for 18185 service or any other similar company who gives you free 0800 access number so you can use you mobile and i belive cost of call would be less than 8p. and if you have to call 0844 number than get family mobile sim card(ikea mobile) and its only 12p per minute and you dont even need to go though someother company:)0 -

Get off your high horse. I was answering the op,s question, about getting cheaper access to ngn numbers.
They are reasonable if your using a O2 payg phone as the original poster is. Or do you know a cheaper supplier of calls to 084/087 that he could use from his mobile ?
O2 dont include such calls in there inclusive minutes, and he was already aware of say no to 0870
Of course using ngn numbers to rip off people is a disgrace but thats not what he asked.0 -
I've used savacalldirect.com for years to ring US numbers via a geographical landline number for less than a penny a minute (plus included minutes). I used it yesterday but I'm worried that it may have gone bust. Its access numbers are unobtainable today, the 'help' button returns no pages, and the top-up process won't accept money! Anybody know anything about it? There doesn't seem to be a way of direct contact (i.e. email which can disappear into the ether)
Or about another similar service?0 -

Try calling them tomorrow business hours. 0203 638 5231
Reliable alternative http://www.localphone.com/call/united_states
However these people http://www.callsdiscount.com/ offer access at no extra charge to call USA numbers via a 0161 uk geographical number.;)0 -
For info there is a app which will do what the op wanted (back in 2012)
On my mobile, I use the "WeQ4U" app and it works fine.
You dial the 0845 etc, number via the app and the call is charged as a 03 number.

Ypaymore: Many thanks for giving me even better solutions! (though the access numbers came back after some hours).0

Excellent service !! But the OP said he had an O2 Payg Phone. Calls to 03 numbers can be expensive depending on tariff.0
