How about the Ford Fiesta circa 2003, that has quite high seating, or, the Fusion?

An alternative to the Nissan note is the Honda Jazz, plenty of choice within the budget

Seating is a big issue if you have any sort of disability.

The ones I've found easy to get in and out of that are smaller are:

Meriva - Great to get in and out of, but the seats aren't the comfiest for going long distances.

C3 - But... It's french, only sat in it because my sister likes citroens and fancied a smaller car. She's got the picasso grand atm.

Vauxhall Agila - Had one of these as a hire car years ago, was real easy to get in and out of, it was the old design though (the ones that look like a tin of corned beef) not sure about the new design. Probably same seating as meriva.

Nissan Note - Again easy to get in and out of.

Kia - Blah can't remember the name of it, but sis found it easy to get in and out of.

I think if you have any kind of back problem, the best thing you can do is try some of the cars in the first instance before making any decisions. My sister and I have similar problems but on opposite sides of the body, and found different cars easier for getting in and out of.
    4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j
