What car for a learner with high seating?

My daughter will be starting to learn to drive soon. I plan to buy a medium family car in which she can learn in as well as having driving lessons. Due to my back problems i am looking for a car with high seating and easy exit.

I have no trouble with Vaux Zafira etc but feel it is a bit big for my daughter to learn in.

Needs to be cheap in running cost and insurance. Due to low annual mileage i have no problem going for a petrol version.

Max budget is around £5k but may exceed that.

Have thought of the following Ford c-max, Seat Altea XL, Nissan Note which i believe will be better for someone with a bad back.

Thinking about it the old shape zaifra may be okay.

Any other recommendations?
Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems :( Well at least i learn something on the way :D

  • A lot of cars you can now adjust the height of the seat. Not sure it would work for your back but I have a problem with cars because I'm tiny and so need either cusions or a height adjustable seat.

I don't drive a zafira. New zafira looks a bit bigger to me but then again have not seen them side by side. True the length may be the same. Have to check one out

The 5K may insure the Zafira. I'd go for a small car, the C3 maybe, Agila, Renault Modus, but they may be too dear to insure for a 17 year old.

True. Was thinking that the car i will buy will be the main family car. She will have use of it when she wants. I am a lone parent with three kids under 18. I am large so something small like c3 will be cramp for me :-(

It's only the same size as an Astra. That should be OK.

I'm the same, three kids, not small, I've a Zafira A, but we fit comfortably in my wife's C3. Can't insure my daughter for the zafira with my insurer though.

Learned to drive and sat my test in a Ford Galaxy, it was awesome! I actually found it easier to do manoeuvres in than the current shape fiesta I'm in atm due to it having better visibility out the back and bigger mirrors. Also the examiner didn't want to give me reversing round a corner (which I could do anyway) in my test as he wasn't sure it was fair :D
