free (small) webspace needed, own html pages access req; low/no ads too

Hi,
Having investigated my isp, sadly I have no free webspace I can use to upload a few pages to.
I have tried Weebly and yola but they do wysiwyg typed editors, with no access to upload my own html pages to.

It's for a group I'm part of setting up, so until we manage to raise money to pay for somewhere, we need to be free, and we're not talking massive sized site, few pages about us/rips/pictures etc. maybe 50megs, if that, and certainly not hundreds of hits a day.

I'm happy making a site offline, basic yes, but to our own look, and then upload, and redirect our domain name to it, so minimal ads, or no ads preferred.
I definitely don't want popups at all, as we're dealing with people with brain injuries that might look at this, and I don't want anything random (or through specific advertising via location/previous searches etc. aka google targeted ads) that could potentially be seen as us endorsing it, and them getting into hassle with clicking, installing, scanning whatever. So text based ad at the bottom of the page fine, even could live with the type of add yola do (small graphic, direct to their own site)
Certainly in the group itself, people are generally not comfortable, or savvy with computer use, or the internet outside email (by far not including this to be a brain injury issue, however) so potentially they might click on something not good.

Any help with some where short term, that can fill these requirements?
ftp not a requirement, but would be nice. Could live with browser upload.

I had similar requirements to you when I was looking to set up a basic site. It was just for playing around, so I didn't need much space and came across a few free providers. I went with zoka.cc in the end and, at first, I was amazed with how this was free with no advertising, FTP access, PHP scripts, MySQL databases, etc... Then I noticed a few "limitations"...

If I remember rightly... There are file-size limits (so you can't upload high-res photos, etc.); your HTML files are automatically modified when you upload them to add a (fairly innocent-looking) stat-tracking script and to add the "noindex" parameter in the headers (which prevents the site from being indexed by search engines).

Then I noticed that any invalid links in my web pages re-directed to some very dodgy sites, often flagged with "malware" or "phishing attempt" warnings in Firefox. Nice.

So... if it has to be free, and you check your links are valid(!), it might be worth a look... The service is otherwise pretty good.

If you just want a reputable provider, this isn't a specific recommendation (as I haven't used their services), but 1&1 do 5GB hosting for £2.50 a month...

    Free hosting - www.000webhost.com/

Beware of your site being accidently deleted or corrupted though.

If you don't have a domain name then you can use a subdomain such as www.yourname.webhost.com or you can buy a .co.uk domain name for £7.50.

Hosting starts at £1.99 per month or £19.99 per year with www.hostsphere.co.uk

I'd definitely recommend Wordpress.com - free, no ads, easy to set up (an look nice if you spend some time on it) and the CMS means easy to upload & modify content!

Actually, there are ads, Google Ads to be precise if hosted through them.

You could sign up with a dynamic DNS service and set up your own web server at home....

    +1 for https://www.000webhost.com/

You get a good feature set, no ads, and it's free. All they want is that you log into the control panel at least once a month.

I used 110mb.com. Used them for around 4 years and never had a problem, they do have limitations. - but they can be redeemed for a few pounds.

    From their website:
    Free Web Hosting:
Our basic free web hosting plan includes:
    110 MB Disk Space
    100 GB Bandwidth
    Free Site Builder
    110mb.com Footer Links
    Community Forum Support

    I think it's around £4 a month for a premium account.

You could sign up with a dynamic DNS service...

You don't even need that if you use a static IP address...

Problem of cause is that most ISPs prohibit you from doing this in their terms and conditions and if you are caught they cut off your service.
