HI guys - small update
My bf called his own insurance late last night, as we searched the paperwork - they have a 24/7 telephone!
So they now have passed on the details to Biker Legal Defense - from whom he also got a call today.
They have advised not to deal with the other lads insurance.
They will be collecting the bike tomorrow to their garage to assess damage & fix. They will be giving a similar bike in the meantime to use while his one get repaired.
So I really think its just a waiting game now. We've sent off photos of the scene to these BLD people and have given them details of witnesses.0 -

I did try last night to give you the benefit of my experience having gone through this twice but, there you go.
Of course they will advise you not to deal with the other lads insurance, they are going to make a couple of grand out of it.
This is why our insurance is so expensive because these leeches are taking money for nothing.
You could have done it all yourself if half the time.
Anyway, never mindmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
This happened to my 'ex's bike. We got a quote from the local dealer to repair, faxed it over to the third parties insurance, they paid out for the repairs after having an examiner check that the damage was genuine. I like to think that since the claim didn't involve a five figure ambulance chaser fee, that was why the claim was settled within a week....0

Thanks for your advice, I appreciate it.
Thing with this is, even when the police arrived on scene, they said to contact your own insurance company.
It's understandable - wouldn't the third party insurance take every effort to defend their client ? They tried to call us today by the way, and the gentleman on the phone started the conversion with "I'm sorry you were involved in an accident....I believe your motorbike was unattended and parked by someones drive"?
This is where we cut the conversion, as by listening to that they are already defending their client. Unattended parked wrong place? What's he on about, when the bike was legally parked on a public road.
We have legal cover on our insurance, and it's what we pay them for - to sort it out. We in no particular rush, as long as it gets fixed, with no financial implications to us personally, doesn't really matter who is going to make the money here, as someone has to at the end of the day, its a business.
But thanks again

Be very careful what is signed for in respect of the "similar" bike as it is likely to be a credit hire agreement and not a free courtsey bike. Someone reversed into our car a few years and our insurers passed it to an accident management company who provided a "similar" car for us to use. Long story but the final claim against the other party's insurers was for £7,500 - £1,500 for the repairs and £6,000 for the replacement car. Not surprisingly the other party's insurers refused to pay and it was a lot of paperwork and 2 years later before they finally reached agreement - 48 hours before we were all due to appear in court.HI guys - small update

The 2nd time it happened the other party's insuruers (ESure) dealt with everything, provided a free courtsey car, let us chose our own repairer and we had our car back in 1 week. So having experienced both methods I agree totally with McKneff.
Hope that eveything does go well for you but read everything before signing.0 -
Thanks Nearly Old
I understand, I think perhaps if the third party insurance we not so aggressive when they called, already making a statement that we were wrongly parked, then we could be having a totally different situation here.
Thanks for the advice, will 100 percent double check what is being signed for, whether this is actually a free courtesy bike or not.
I think it's obviously too late now to just deal directly with third party insurance, as the process has already started, a lot of this is my bf decision - his bike at the end of the day.
But they promised all to be sorted within a week, and he gets his bike back. Of course a promise out of thin air is not a promise on paper, we will wait and see.
Thanks guys, really appreciate it0 -
Personally, if I didn't need the courtesy bike, I would avoid it. You are accepting responsibility for possible spurious damage claims which I expect you would prefer to avoid. They will be giving a similar bike in the meantime to use while his one get repaired.0 -
I'd agree with Norman Castle if you can do without a bike till the other one is mended.
Even if they paid for the courtesy bike, your boyfriend again would be liable for the excess if anything happened to the hire bike, even the slightest scratch, unless he paid extra for excess insurance, hence opening another can of worms. And its sods law that it will happen.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Yes I suggested to avoid the other bike while he gets his one fixed, so he cancelled this so called courtesy bike as BLD confirmed this is a hire bike!
So we are now waiting for his bike to be collected on thurs.0
