Same thing happened to me today on Halifax - lost one of the two numbers I had there previously.
    I was a DFW, now I'm a MFW :T
  • This happened to me too for no apparent reason - they also lost any record of my phonebanking security number at the same time :(

All sorted out within a week, but still a proper pita!
    DF

My advice is close your account and find another bank, it is not going to get better.

I had the same problems and more, here is my tale of woe:

This happened to me on several occasions, it became really frustrating and I thought I was banging my head off a wall trying to get them to recognise it was their fault, they eventually told me it was a glitch caused by the merging of the two bank systems into one but after a year of problems I considered it inexcusable after all the time and effort and inconvenience it caused me and the apathy from the bank so I closed my account and moved to another bank.

My advice is close your account and find another bank, it is not going to get better.
It's actually a very minor inconvenience, because I can still send the money to my Natwest or Nationwide accounts and from there to the new payee, using the card reader. I was mostly startled by the fact it happened to two accounts at very nearly the same time, and was a little worried that there may be a security issue involved.

A minor inconvenience certainly not worthy of being Santandered. It has happened once in God knows how many years I've been banking online with Lloyds TSB.

This happened to me with my Lloyds account. It was an inconvenience, but was sorted out quickly. No-one could give me any explanation though. I also have a Halifax account but it wasn't affected.
I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.
