Better to use home or mobile phone insurance?
Speaking with someone today who dropped his iphone down the toilet. He insures it for £10 per month with O2.
I suggested that his home contents insurance with RBS probably covers him and it would be cheaper to ditch his mobile insurance in future.
He thinks either he isn't covered for this or/and the home insurance provider would put up his premium if he claimed. Not sure if he paid excess or not.
Which is cheaper over the long run?

What's point in guessing? What are excesses?
With home insurance they'll lose their NCB. There is no NCB for mobile insurances, but the next claim (in the same year?) can cost more.
What's point in paying £10 p.m. for the mobile insurance and not using it? I think the decision should have been taken before starting paying, not after.0 -
I mean is it worth continuing it now?0

Normally there is an excess before claiming on home policies for iphones, post 212 paid £50 excess, but see also post 226 and 227. Looking on further, I note that some of the O2 insurance policies also charge an excess.

£10 a month is more than I would pay for my entire house insurance, it sounds like a serious rip off, althouh some people are paying £15 here.0
