Cheapest Diesel In France - Calais?

We are driving to SW France next week and wondering where is the cheapest place to fill up with Diesel?

I've heard that Diesel in Calais is the cheapest (and cheaper than the UK), is this true? If so, any particular garages?

Have a look at this link. Select which fuel you want, then select an area on the map.

    http://www.prix-carburants.economie.gouv.fr/

Diesel in France is around 1E 34 at the moment.

The main thing is to avoid buying on the peage. E1.55+ Last week
I went accross with an almost empty tank, saved about 15-20%.

Cheapest fuel in Calais ( Coquelles actually ) at the Auchan supermarket about 3 miles from tunnel.
    Easy to find.
Try to avoid buying fuel on the autoroutes always well expensive.

    Was over there yesterday, diesel/gazole was €1.349/L at a hypermarket. Around £1.12 a litre at 1.2 €/£

This site in Andys link above shows the prices at all garages across France, seems to range from €1.33-€1.55, usually cheapest at a hypermarket dearest on the motorway.

€1.55 is the cheapest PETROL I've seen down here but I'm on LPG at
    €076.5 :D so I don't look too close.

    Diesel €1.37

Right, so the plan will be to fill up for the first time in the Auchan supermarket. Is that the closest supermarket to the Eurotunnel exit?

It's our first time driving in France (but not on the continent). How far off the motorway are the hypermarkets? Is it really worth driving off the motorway to get cheaper fuel over there?

Yes ..... usually can be 15c per litre cheaper in some areas
15c x 4.55 ish is 68c per gallon cheaper, that's well over ten bob per gallon difference !!!

As said before the supermarkets are the cheapest. The absolute cheapest I've seen is €1.304 per litre in the HyperU in Parthenay Deux Sevres 2 days ago.

Probably the most important to plan your route. Try the site at Viamichelin it will calculate the appoximate tolls which will probably be the biggest area for saving on your journey.

For example Calais to Bordeaux will cost €63 in fuel and €68.50 in tolls and take 8 hours to complete. If you avoid tolls it will cost €60 only in fuel but the cost is an increase of 2.5 hours of travel time.

I being the tightwad always drive with avoid tolls selected on the sat nav but generally I'm with Mrs Bogtrotter and we can share driving duties on the longer journeys.

Also depends on the cost of leaving the toll road, then re-entering it.

It's worth driving off the motorway to see some of France instead of miles and miles and miles of motorway, too :)

We've found fuel to be the cheapest at the Hypermarkets each year we've been.
