Slugs - yuck !

I also started with a week or so of hunting when I first moved here and cleared the large snail population pretty well. In subsequent years I have made multiple attacks in the spring against the slugs and it has kept the population down well in those years. BUT do not sit back on your laurels as they can breed well!
One tip - make more than one foray a night. They come out at different times so start at dusk and do a a few until as late as you can manage. Also, to encourage them out earlier (especially in the dry weather), give everywhere a bit of a shower a little before dusk.0 -
I'm sure I read something about mowing the lawn at night can really help.0

A friend of mine suggested putting salt round the plants........not sure that works but seem to remember my Dad doing something like that. Think I'll give it a go on our plants and see.I would be unstoppable if only I could get started !

One of my old books mentions using soot around plants.
I have tried egg shells and they help a 'bit'.
With some plants, I grow them in pots until they are a bit bigger so they at least have a fighting chance once they get put out.0 -

Be careful, salt will also kill plants.
