See what they say about starting a new policy for your new car. Will they give you your 3 years NCD on a new policy starting on Monday?

If so, take it out so you can get your new car, then cancel it within the cooling off period and move elsewhere complete with 3 years NCD.

If you scrapped the old car. when you tell them they will cancel the insurance, charge a cancellation fee, and issue you with 2 years ncd, as you will not have earned the full year this year.

This is what I was concerned about in post #6, so the OP needs to tread carefully.

Part of the fairness requirement is not putting obstacles in the way when someone wants to move to a new provider, in this case not allowing vehicle changes because the policy holder is not renewing is putting an unfair obstacle in the way of a move.

Quentin's idea has merit but be wary of cancellation charges, they may be more than the change of vehicle charge which, if LV were behaving properly, would be all you had to pay.

I still think I'd be phoning their complaints dept on Monday as in post #9 in the hope of getting someone with common sense who would see the fair solution to the problem and make it happen

I believe there may be a timeframe before the end of policy term (a month?) where they can issue the year NCD before the year is up.

I had this with Endsleigh when my insurance was due for renewal in July but I moved house in June and they said the olde insurer couldn't cover me at my new postcode. Endsleigh offered me cover with a different provider starting in June. And I got my year;s NCD early.

So if they say they can give you proof of the 3 years NCD then hopefully that makes sense and they can do this...
Indecision is the key to flexibility :)
