Family member has connected her iphone to my router to get wi-fi, will this affect my BB usage? Just read somewhere that every time she uses the net on her iphone it is using my BB time?

Sorry I do not know the techno on these things.

If you don't have unlimited broadband then yes it will, it doesn't matter whether it is an iphone whichever device is connected will use data.
  • Typical mobile usage on WiFi will add very little to your broadband usage. If you are close to a cap with current usage (for example if you have the 10GB Plusnet value) then it might cost you something but otherwise I don't think you have much to concern you.

Check with your broadband provider what your usage is and keep an eye on it every few days.

If you just go closer to your cap then other than the "opportunity cost" (what you might have done with that spare data allowance) this extra usage costs nothing.

To state the obvious, any data usage on wifi has no impact on your phone contract. Voice calls (unless using Skype or similar) will be via the mobile phone network in the normal way.

The thing that really eats up data is YouTube, iPlayer and similar.

She is using your BB in much the same way as you do - so it all adds to the overheads. Depending on the package you have, it may mean nothing - unless the usage is data intensive (iPlayer, lots of downloads etc). Just keep an eye on it and if there's no change, there's no problem!

Depends which BB provider you use. My grandson got an Ipod Touch and is often on Youtube, my daughter got charged extra on her BT BB bill, so had to up her limit. Whereas I have never been charged anymore than my £5 normal BB bill on Orange and I watch a lot of iplayer on my laptop.

Worth pointing out that the iPhone will only use the OP's BB when using the internet on wifi within range of the OP's router and not "every time she uses the net on her iphone".
