diceydeb, I went through quidco for £21 cashback so effectively, would have only cost £3 for the year and because I'm a heavy petrol user, would have gained at least £130 in cashback for petrol alone.

If I were you I would open a Santander 123 CA; once you have this then the 123 CC is virtually guaranteed acceptance.

Plus, you could make a load of additional cashback (£45.45+£23.23), and on top of that the £24 123 CC fee will be refunded by Santander.
    It worked for me.

Hi Scrounger, firstly I don't want to apply for a bank account and have another search on my credit file for something I do not require. Second of all it's not 'virtually guaranteed' and it's still based on your credit rating. It only works in this situation if you move your banking across and im guessing you need at least 6 months history and I have absolutely no intention of doing it.

Sorry Scrounger, I just wanted to clarify to the people following this thread that what you suggested is not a good idea. I know you were trying to help and thank you again.

    Santander worst bank in history.

Maybe they did you a favour?

Yeah, of course you'd say that - cos they rightly recorded a default against you. Maybd next time dont default?

Haha... on a similar note Santander removed a default they shouldn't have with me... which is nice and all but I still consider them to be the worst bank in history...

... as the complaints statistics prove :o

I don't have experience of banking with Santander but wouldn't want to switch to them due to all the negativity, but there's no denying that the 123 credit card concept is good and that would need very little dealings with their customer service anyway.

Not necessarily. A bank that has 10 complaints from people because they had 1p taken from their account isn't better than a bank that only has 5 complaints but they had £1000 taken!

Judging by the average thread on here, I wouldn't be surprised if most complaints (at any bank) were about people moaning about their policies - not the bank actually doing anything wrong.

Saying that, Santander do have seemingly inept branch staff in my area who haven't yet managed to do anything I needed without seeking help (including taking a photocopy of my passport).

I think a lot of the Santander negativity stems from UK consumers being effectively 'forced' to bank with them (though they could have obviously moved their accounts when the takeovers started). When one bank takes over several different others, there's bound to be errors and problems, plus all the usual day-to-day errors and problems that all banks have to deal with.
