Avois or bmi diamond club

I have been an avios collector (airmiles) for many years and have now taken out a bmi credit card which has awarded me 20,000 miles for meeting the required spend level.
i am aware that from 3rd July i can convert these to avios at the rate of 1 for 1.
Is this a good deal or should i keep the bmi miles as i can use them from East Midlands Airport where avios has to be mainly Manchester or London which is not really local for me.
Any advice gratefully accepted.

as you say, from 3rd July there will be a tool to transfer to Avios. What will happen in the future to bmi flights from EMA is anyones guess...bmibaby will be gone soon and bmi regional is due to be sold off. If you want to redeem on flights from EMA I guess you need to understand who will be operating these and what program they will use. Worst case you sit on them in your diamond club account then move them to Avios if that turns out to be the right thing to do0

Several threads on Flyertalk which may help (or confuse)
General consensus is that BMI miles are better value for Transatlantic flights and avios are better value for European flights or Upgrades with BA.
if you only have 20K BMI miles you are not going to get far-Moscow may be doable IIRC.0 -
If you have both BMI and BAEC accounts then presumably it's worth collecting BMI miles wherever you can as their scheme is typically more generous than BA's? e.g. hotels, car rentals ... then if you convert 1:1 to Avios you get more than if you'd collected Avios directly?
Have I understood this right?0
