school jubilee celebrations - dress up as queen

I've had a letter from nursery to say that the children may come in fancy dress as a queen (or king) for the jubilee celebrations.
I have 2 children and short of buying 2 queen outfits or just not send them fancy dress I don't know what I can do.
Any ideas on how I can send my children looking like they're involved in the fun?
I wish it was a flag/blue/red day as we could have had a load of cheap fun with that theme.

cloak from duvet cover

Crowns are easy enough to make - stiff paper or card (cereal boxes work well) decorated with whatever's lying around the house. You've probably got some glitter, pom poms, wool, stickers etc.
Cloaks could be made from a pillow case/duvet cover or maybe some old curtains if you have any.
Bedding is usually really cheap in charity shops. You could probably pick up a double duvet cover which would easily make 2 outfits for a couple of quid. You could add some bling to these with jewellery or tinsel maybe.0 -
jeans, white t-shirt, fake 'freddie' moustache. Sorted.0

Funnily enough some of us mums (of boys) were talking about this earlier this week, our childrens school is doing the same thing and l have a son... we were thinking it was easier with girls as they all usually have pretty dress up dresses and tiaras?
I'm getting some red velvet and some ermine type material and making a cape for my son, and a cardboard crown with some 'jewels' stuck on. The local charity shops didn't have any red material in though, so l can't be completely moneysaving
At least we have a weeks notice.....

As mentioned above, you could easily make a crown with some cardboard, a bit of tin foil etc.
I have also seen a big inflatable crown in poundland when I was looking for something for my son to wear to a Beavers Jubilee party. He is wearing a crown and a union jack flag as a cape - total spent £2! :money:

Pretty dresses and homemade crowns by the children. Splash out on a pack of gems from tesco to stick on, or tin foil shapes will do."On behalf of teachers, I'd like to dedicate this award to Michael Gove and I mean dedicate in the Anglo Saxon sense which means insert roughly into the anus of." Cloaks - just cut down to size and put a slit about 1/4 way down to get their heads through.
Dress for girls - a colourful t-shirt, an elastic belt and one of your skirts, (the garish one that you will NEVER wear again works best) the richer the fabrics the better, put the skirt up to her chest and secure with belt, even out the gathers and pull the waist round and tuck right under the belt, secure with a hand stitch or two.
Tunic for boys - a longer piece of curtain than the cloak and put a slit for head half way down - secure with a belt - anything jeweled, studded or metal is best. Wear with leggings and boots or just school trousers if he is shy.
Crowns as other posts.
Also make cardboard shields and get the kids to do their own designs.
Alternatively go all contemporary with a flowery frock, gloves, cardi, handbag, shoes and big hat and for the boys, a suit or school trousers and blazer, with huge plastic ears. The other alternative is to make cardboard masks of the queen, prince charles etc.0 -

a sheet or large towel (charity shop) with big red hearts drawn on it - can be used with a hole cut to go over their head for either a boy or a girl as king or queen of hearts. Add a home-made crown and you're sorted.0
