a lot of people do - there is a belief that the post office have the best rates

The Post Office are masters at branding themselves trustworthy and low priced when in fact the opposite is usually true.

Who changes money at the post office or thomas cook anyway?

Thomas Cook often have the best rate on the High Street (including the Supermarkets). I only changed €40 worth, and am leaving the country by train (so couldn't book to get at the airport - which I normally find works out cheapest) so Thomas Cook was by far the best option for me.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Thomas Cook Peterborough today - offered 1.14 Euros to the £. My husband had been primed that this was not the best rate - so said "I thought you offered the best rates, price matching?". Was then told "Oh yes sorry we do", and the rate increased to 1.21. Might not be the absolute best, but worth challenging.

1.14 is a complete rip-off!! 1.21 is not too bad for changing cash but still 3.5% worse than today's MasterCard rate of 1.253432

I too fell victim at Thomas Cook at Sheffield Meadowhall. Usually exchange at M&S as I tend to compare and they always seem to offer a competitive rate. However as I booked a flight on the Saturday night to fly monday morning time was very short. At M&S there are usually long queues so unfortunately went to Thomas Cook. I got a rate of 1.14 euros to the £. Only later when checking the internet realised what a poor deal this was and was lower than their own website. I was fuming. Taught me a lesson not to book either a future holiday or exchange cash at Thomas Cook's
