one thing for sure both the AA and RAC are as bad as each other . My RAC renewal was similalry over priced but my negotiaitons not quiote so good I settled on £6 more than the new member price but that was over £60 less than my renewal

from next year i will always be a "new" customer to whoever is cheapest

Same goes for Green Flag. Threaten to go elsewhere, quoting the deals, and they drop it. Well they have for two years.

I know they benefit from inertia but when they all do it and they all have to "retain" their good customers I don't see how any of them have a competitive advantage. It is simply an increased operational cost for each of them.

Same with energy suppliers, phones, insurance, fuel discounts at supermarkets etc

AutoAid at £38 is still cheaper than RAC at £68. See post 3 above. The few times I've had to use them, I've had no complaints whatsoever, either with them or the agent.

Read the MSE Cheap Breakdown Cover article

I myself am with Autoaid, £38 a year.

We went with this company but decided on their scheme where you do not pay the bills in advance. We pay £66.00 for 15 months cover and includes Home, Motorway, and Roadside assistance.

Got Greenflag UK + home cover last year for £65 with £25 back through Quidco. Will doubtless have to be a "new" customer somewhere else when it comes up. Usually flip our car insurance between Tesco and Direct Line each year to get best deal as a new customer. However, Tesco did give us a "new" customer special offer this year to keep us once I'd told them I'd got a better quote elsewhere. It matched DL, so we stayed.

Customer loyalty is worth nothing these days, they just want to get you on automatic renewal and quietly increase the charge every year.

Cancel the renewal, don't try and haggle with the nice man / lady in Mumbai, just buy a new policy online (using a different card) via a visit through a cashback site such as Quidco/Topcashback.

Did you need a fresh or alternative email address too?

Noticed with Insurance quotes it wouldn't allow you to use an alternative member of the family if you used the same email.

As others have said, change every year!

I always switch between AA and RAC every year for the basic package, costs £9 with cashback. They ask for £60 at renewal and I just ring and cancel.

Same with car insurance, for the past ten years I have just switched between arriva and direct line! I have never renewed any insurance!
