My RAC renewal came through today at a cost of £ 111.80.

This includes 1 Vehicle cover; Roadside & at Home and Vehicle Based.

I went to their website and typed in the same details and they're bringing up a price of £ 68 (assuming I was a new member).

They did the same thing last year but I left it too late to cancel.

Beware !!

Ring them and ask for a reduction.

We usually go from the AA to RAC and back again each year to get the new customer rates and usually cashback if it is available at the time.

We have also rung them at renewal and they have matched the others offer.

This. They do it everytime. Best thing is to simply keep moving around.

    5t.

Right. Phoned them up and told them new members are being charged half the price of my renewal. Lady told me the new membership rates are only for 12 months but without a seconds hesitation she moved into "customer retention mode" and offered me the same rate as new members i.e. £ 68 for twelve months explaining that they could offer me that rate as long as the contract was changed to auto-renewable (which it is anyway).

Don't pay the renewal quote !!

I'll be doing the same when my RAC membership is up for renewal in July.

We make a call every year and get 'super special customer' rates every year - normally less than new member discount prices

:rotfl:I hate companies who do not have transparent pricing. Sky are another.

Next year I will ask for the "super DUPER special customer rate" :)

Virgin do the same sort of thing. Customer loyalty means absolutely nothing these days; it is all about signing up new customers and hope the existing ones don't notice they're being ripped off.
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.

Why bother being a member at all?

Just call them when you break down. It costs twice as much, but unless you break down more than once every two years, it works out cheaper that way.
