Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Thursday 24th May 2012 . This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning Everyone!

Sunny here in Hasings again!. Just looked in the mirror and had a shock:eek: I look like a tomato! :eek:I had suncream on too yeaterday:rotfl: Make up methinks!

My french doors dropped earlier this week, and last night after 10 minutes I got one shut, and locked, then managed to get the other one shut, but couldn't lock it, so I had to tie the handles together. I must ring the company first thing.:o

Garden is growing like mad, been harvesting salad and radishes, my toms have trusses already!:T

Seeing my nephew and his wife tomorrow, they are coming down to see my Dad, so that's good. OH over today too.

Enjoy the beautiful weather!

    Morning all
My lunch duty today is one with no shade so maybe I'll get a bit of colour.
Breakfast eaten, fish fed, packup's made, last night we checked the budget and added up all the increases in bills. When we moved here, I could cover all the bills from my wage of £833 a month and buy food, they have now gone up to £1400 a month, ouch!
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

Hi there all, gorgeous walk for me and Jack this morning and we found 5p on the skate-park, the kids have been throwing their money away again!!!! Must put the washing on tonight so I can take advantage of the weather first thing tomorrow. Another day at school but we are having lots of fun making bunting and Jubilee crowns. The Olympic torch is near us in Monmouth today , some of the kids are going with their parents and we will watch the live feed on the BBC, the kids were watching it yesterday and were really excited. Fish for tea , will decide how to cook it when I get home.
Hugs to all in need, hope the exam went well adelight, Monnagran the travel expert on BBC was advising people to take Euros in small denominatins in cash to Greece, apparently even some of the posher restaurants are now reluctant to take card payments. We are off to Kefalonia in August so am keeping an eye on the situation.
Have a good day all, stay safe in the sun.:j

    Morning everyone

Love and hugs to those that are having a hard/sad time at the moment x

Beautiful bright sunshine here again this morning, supposed to stay like this over the weekend too. DH up and off to work stupid early.

Dinner last night was pie, chips and beans/veg for the menfolk and I had mushroom omlette and salad.

Funeral went off well, think we gave her a good send off, and as she'd left complete instructions for the Vicar, right down to what hymns, what readings, what prayers and where she wanted refreshments afterwards - all they needed to do was put it into place - the venue for the refreshments was absolutely gorgeous and very fitting tribute to my lovely aunt. Think my mum found it quite tough though, (it was her eldest sister) as her and dad are giving 24/7 care to my dad's eldest sister who has terminal cancer, she never married or had children and possibly the best way to describe her is "difficult even on a good day before she became ill", she's fallen out with the rest of the family so there's only my parents and us that bother with her, and she's very often really nasty to my parents - but being the decent people they are they are plodding along - they want to be able to lay their heads down at the end knowing they did their best and tried to give abide by her wishes by not going into hospital or a hospice. But I know it's taking it's toll on both of them.

Dinner tonight I'm not sure, but I'll be going to SM shortly so will organise something then, have the normal list of chores, but as I've been able to get washing dry on the line daily, I've been doing a load each night and putting on the line in the morning, then ironing it, so although I have some to do there's not a mahoosive pile like normal, so will get that done once I'm back from SM before it gets too hot - also need to take DS2 to get a new passport photo for his school day trip to France after school.

Have several jobs to do at home and at the caravan - as after this weekend, we're away for the next 5 weekends.

We're taking part in the village yard sale tomorrow, so should be quite a good day as the weather looks like being decent, hoping to make some good sales!

Remember the sunscreen if you're going to be out in the sun x

Hugs to those that want/need them, keep safe and well x

Hester - it is so scary how things are going up! With the fuel bills and food it is hard to know where you can scrape in the pennies - and the iffy weather will probably send food bills up again. It is actually frightening seeing such a rise.

Little bear is supposed to go to school dressed as a pirate today. I can't find the trousers for his costume -and I am glad! They are so heavy and padded that he would melt. The top is thin enough. I think I will 'not be able to find the sword' as well. The school is really red hot, it is a warm place in winter, in summer it is an invitation to heatstroke.

Sausage and salad pittas tonight. I bought a '3 packs for £10' deal from Mr A. We had some really lovely meaty burgers last night and some are left over for me and darling father for lunch. There is a large tray of sausages which are with salad in pitta tonight and cold tomorrow for sandwiches for at least two of us. Tomorrow night we have turkey steaks which I think I will cut into strips and stir fry. Sunday is China Chilo to use up the lettuce with lamb mince from the freezer.

I need to dash off and water the garden, little bear to school then get a much needed quick bath and pop into town, leaving lunch out for darling father who has hurt his leg. I need to then dash home and I then I will need to find enthusiasm for housewifery. I then am supposed to be taking little bear to the piano lesson after school to replace Wednesday when I couldn't make it. Standing around at bus stops with an exhausted and over heated little bear - what fun! But worth it.

I need to live out of the freezer for a little bit again. I tried to fit in stuff from the delivery yesterday and it really was touch and go. I am not even sure what all of the stuff in the freezer is!

I don't really want to go into town, but if I wait for OH to go and get himself some summer shirts (which he hasn't really needed for the last few years) then I will still be waiting at Christmas and he will get heatstroke wearing flannel shirts in this weather.

Meanmarie - hope your grandson is feeling a bit better.

    Morning :hello:

De1amo, I hope you've done some exercise and are now eating a healthy breakfast :D

Sold some eggs yesterday so that's more money for the pot.

Me and the sun have a mutual dislike for one another :D It's doing the garden a world of good so I shouldn't complain but I still do, lol. I keep hiding in the shade, the garden has had lots of attention but in short bursts. I have to go out today, we have a van with no air-con. So if you see a woman in the passenger seat of a little white van with her head hanging out the window, it'll be me :D

I'd better go and plant some more tomatoes and peppers into the greenhouse before the sun gets too hot.

Hi All, The exercise will start when i get my exercise bike delivered because i have a bad back and all the equipment my wife has strains my back(its how i got the bad back using her cross trainer).

İ have stopped drinking alcohol and taken up water. This morning i feel fresher for it.-we had a healthy salad type of breakfast and a tiny amount of cheese(it will be diet cheese once this chunk is finished)--i am not sure if olives are cholesterol laden?--i know the oil is good for it.

İ am taking DD to school with me because the teachers at her school are striking. i only have 1 lesson later but i will go out for a walk to get some exercise--the doctor says 45 minutes walking a day and the seafront is close to school.---i am not sure if 45 mins leisurely or pacey walking though??

İts home early tonight and prepare for tomorrow because Saturday is a full day's work.

Hope everyone has a good day and slip slaps slops before going out in the sun!! G
    mfw'11 No68- 55k mortgage İO--little to nothing saved! i must do better.
