Consumer rights and wigs

Hi, hopefully someone can help...pleaseeee.

My mum has really thin hair and went with a friend to look at some wigs. To cut a long story short she bought it costing £480, paid cash and wore it to leave the shop.

She wasn;t given a receipt but laer wnet back and got one although it did not look very official as it was hand written on a scrappy piece of paper.

She got hom enad my dad ha snow put her off it and I called them and even though it still has the tags in it they will not accept it to be returned as it has been worn, even though she would have worn it to try it on and could have not bought it.

Anyway, I caled them and they simply won;t help and my mum is having sleeples snights worying over it.

Is there anything I can do to force them to accept it back as it was worn for about 30 minutes and will never be worn again.

many thanks in advance.

She had a chance to inspect it in the shop, changing ones mind is not a valid reason for a refund/exchange in the eyes of the law. Sorry, she is now the proud owner of a wig which she can wear, stick in a drawer or flog on ebay.

Unless it's faulty, or not as described when your mum bought it, no there isn't.

Shops aren't required to give you a refund just because you've changed your mind.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

She didn't take the tags off to wear it out of the shop!

Sorry but unless there's a problem the shop doesn't have to give a refund. They couldn't sell it to anyone else.

What is causing the sleepless nights, is it your Dad being angry about the waste of money?

    oh well. many thanks.

I have not seen the tags but assume they are on the inside.

My dad is not happy as it does not suit her.

Also as a side note, retailers don't have to even give receipts.

Well clearly your mum and her friend think it does, so why is your dad making her feel bad about something she probably already feels quite rotten about needing anyway? He probably didn't mean to be nasty but you know him better than us, but it was very unkind of him.

She's got it now, poor lady, can't you get your dad to apologise and say it was just that she looked different but now he's got used to the idea, he thinks she looks lovely!

(Unless it really is a horror, have you seen it?) If it is a curly one they can take a few wears and a bit of styling to settle down a bit. I used to work opposite a woman who often wore wigs and one day she turned up in something rather like Ronald McDonalds. I lasted nearly 2 hours hiding behind my monitor trying not to look and chewing my mouth to bits then I had to rush into my boss's office (the only private room) where I slammed the door and collapsed in the corner in hysterics. My boss just said dryly 'I wondered how long you'd last'. In a couple of weeks though it looked quite different and normal!

Never knew that. So do they do it to protect themselves then rather than the buyer e.g. if someone goes back with something they ask for receipt to prove they sold it?

She should ditch the dad and keep the wig!

Tell your dad he's a plonker.

Get him to tell her that 'it's growing on him' (no pun intended)
and that he's changed his mind.

He has upset her, he thinks it doesnt suit her, its becaus he is not used to seeing her like that, it possibly makes her look more attractive so there could be hidden reasons there.

Do you think it suits her. Somebody has got to make this poor lady feel better and give her some self esteem cos it seems that your dad has knocked the stuffing out of her.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
