just been..make sure you buy in seperate transactions if differant prices otherwise you wont get full discount.Example if you buy x2 at £10 and x2 at £5 only the x2 cheapest prices come off[costing £20].Wheras you would pay £15 if done in seperate pairs.
  • Just got back.....great selection in good condition.
Store mega busy with huge queues to checkout but staff had been instructed to put plants through on seperate transactions to maximise savings for the customer so many customers were having to pay on a lot of different transactions which caused the build up at the tills.

I'm tempted to go but i've got so many plants growing from seed at the moment i'm struggling to find space to put them. I need somewhere that sells empty BOGOF gardens.

I got to B&Q just after 8am - and they had an excellent selection.
I only went to buy 2 plants and came away with about 14, plus hanging baskets and plant arrangements - also BOGOF.
Long queues at checkout as mentioned due to them having to do one transaction of 2 plants at a time to give you maximum discount.....
But since I bought 7 times as much as I originally wanted 'discount' is probably not the right word.
But thrilled with things I have bought - some really luxious bay and box and ......
I might pop back after lunch to see if there is anything else I "cannot manage without"
Guess what I will be busy doing all weekend.......:p

I did hear staff saying turf was also bogof.....if that is any use to anyone ?

Like others have said, people were getting stung left right and centre. We went to the self service till and the staff scanned it for us before we had time to realise what was going on. Argued our case and had a refund literally thrown at us. To repeat what others have said, you MUST put items through in pairs and pay for them as you go. If you dont, regardless of what you have purchased, only the cheapest items will be free. I.e. buy two hanging baskets at £16.00 each and two pots of herbs at .99p each and you will be charged £32 and not £16.99. Only the herbs will be free. You have been warned. Neil

PS forgot to say. Watch the bedding plants. It may just be our local store in Newbury which is notoriously bad at watering, but there were some chronically dry plants. I would almost say half the stock was bone dry.

In fairness, it was the staff themselves that were automatically doing this, and explaining to customers why they were having to do so many separate transactions.
There was no attempt to scam customer (in my store anyway) staff just explained their tills are not sophisticated enough to be able to do it the correct way.
I would just have merrily have put everything through in one go, and then like you been faced with a much higher bill than expected. (some of my plants were £30 each - so getting the £1.99 herb free would have been a bummer!)
But hopefully peeps have now been given the heads up on this so are aware.

Re your comment about bedding plant.
The huge mobile racks of plants were delivered to my local B&Q a day or so ago, and have been out in the sun ever since.
Staff are going round watering/hosing them down (saw them doing this last night when I was checking out what stock they had, and again this morning at 8.15) but with the best will in the world it must be impossible to keep them in tip-top condition.
I watered my pots at home last night and those not in the shade are already dry by 11 and needed watering, so I think staff are doing the best they can (esp given the time taken at the tills because of doing 7 transactions instead of one!)
But then again, maybe the staff in your store have just not bothered !

We often use Newbury and Reading B & Q. Regardless of the time of day in Reading, their plants are always moist and the ground is wet. They continually water. In Newbury, they just dont seem to care. Not a hosepipe in sight. ( apart from the hundreds instore that they cant sell because of the ban) Many a time we see tray after tray of dead bedding plants. I think they hope to sell out to save watering.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Multi-buys didn't come off and yes, you have to put things of the same amount through to max the offer - 4 transactions to get plants through for best result for myself.
Only 1 staff on refunds and queues were big, so happy to avoid the hassle.
Reduced items also BOGOF and a few decent offers.

My local B&Q were lovely they were advising people to separate in similar prices so that the maximum savings could be made and then doing several transactions one after the other so no need to keep going back to the till. They had a great selection of plants as well.

    Thanks for the information.
