Oh. Is that why they can be pulled out with a nail bar?

    From an aircrete block, yes.

The frame fixing can be pulled out due to the failure of the substrate, not the fixing. You can pull any fixing out of any substrate by damaging the substrate if you pull hard enough.

Nail bars work for a reason. The long end of a typical nail bar is about 10-15 times longer than the short end, multiplying your pulling force by that same 10-15 times.

Take a look at the technical literature for some proper frame fixings.

Silly question, I want some long bolts for sticking through a concrete post and a wooden garden fence, but can't find any on ebay - which is remarkable. These bolts need to be about 6 inches long (not 6 inches wide!)

So I'm guessing that I'm searching for the wrong thing.

Any ideas what search I should do?

You call it a ten inch bolt.....

Coach bolts have a square section just behind the round head.
This has two advantages in use, a, you don't need two spanners to tighten it up, the square bites into the wood, and b, if fitted the right way round it gives a degree of security from the outside as there is nothing to get a tool on ;);)
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed
