Often it is very true, that you only get what you pay for in most products, but I would say, in our families experience, IKEA has always given one of the best values on the market and a good quality.

My daughter bought wall cabinets for her room and they really look the part, she is delighted.

    I agree with BertieUK

My daughter recently bought an IKEA kitchen and it's great. It also cost less than the one we are currently installing ourselves, even though she paid for the IKEA installation service (which could not be faulted either).

Ikea are value for what you pay for them but because they only have flappy back panels and no service gap they are roundly thrashed by the Wickes Glencoe.

However if you have the budget to look at Sheraton, As others have said you are getting into german territory pricewise and they roundly thrash both Sheraton and Wickes, or any of the english made brands.

Magnet or Crown Imperial (via an independent) would be other possible options at around about the Sheraton/Wickes level.

Not to keen on the look of german kitchens. Have had quotes indentical now from

    Wickes
    Sheraton
    Omega

Wickes is the cheapest and the wall units are slightly larger than average.

Omega is £ 150 more than Wickes
Sheraton is £ 650 more than Wickes but is a rigid construction.

Cant decide what to go for. Help

Can anyone tell me the difference in these doors both are gloss white slabs

Wickes is vinyl finish wrap on MDF
Sheraton/Omega PVC foil laminated on MDF

Vinyl will be a better door imo than a foil

Work for Wickes and have had no problems with our vinyl wrapped doors, but some with the few foil wrapped doors we still do. Agree that neither are the greatest finish but a proper vinyl wrap over a foil every time.

I suspect it is a question of what one defines as a very very very tight budget. I have not looked at IKEA but think the cost would be pretty similar to the quotes I have had. i have no intention of stretching myself beyond my reasonable means and beyond what is suitable for my current modest (but still lovely!) terraced house.

I must warn you, that Ikea kitchens are all their own non-standard sizes..
so if you want a simple kitchen face lift in a few years..you will have to go back to ikea as their doors are 700mm tall NOT 720mm which is the standard size for most companies.

Something to consider which may become very relavent in a few years time!

Thank you for your warm welcome :)

festool frank..it is simply alliteration..nothing more..a cheeky username if you will.

I have a small kitchen company, and I would take the pesi challenge with you regarding price and quality over ANY German Cabinet manufactured product.

I am not here to spam or promote my business in any way..
I will not name my company nor reference it in anyway.

we manufacture all our own carcases and offer a bespoke service..
the finish is high quality and the price is a third or less for well know german kitchens.

but people like yourself promote only foreign manufacturing..the small uk business is at a distinct disadvantage on sites like this..
how can we ever get out of this financial mess when our money is pouring out of the country?

In my experience, german merchandise is high quality, high accuracy and highly priced!!

take festool for instance..excellent machinery..too highly priced for our dwindling economy.
compare a festool router with a trend router..
both achieve perfection on butt and scribed joints, yet are priced miles apart.

Hey Frank I completely agree with you, the best way for UK PLC to get itself out of this recession is to make things, and like yourself we are in the kitchen industry and would like nothing more than a company like Mereway to produce kitchens as good as our chosen German manufacturer but simply English companies do not have the same ethics as German companies, obviously I am talking in general terms here. The English philosophy in business is all about quick profits for the shareholders where as in Germany many manufactures are still family run and invest in their business with long term goals based over 10 or even 20 years. Without question we need to change the way we do things in this country.

Back to kitchens - Proof is in the eating. I know many independent kitchen specialist companies like ours and I only ever hear of and see them changing to doing German kitchen brands, never do they change from doing a German brand to an English one. That must say something!

No doubt by what you say you produce an excellent quality product that works very well for you in your market and location, its just a shame the larger English kitchen manufacturers can't do the same.

Do you have many problems with the Glenco door?
