We got french beans, runners, sweetcorn, strawbs, blueberries, raspberries, blackcurrants, redcurrants, caulis (including a pink one!), 3 different types of broccoli (blame OH), sprouts, cabbage, leeks, turnips, swedes, 6 different types of carrot of different colours (my bad.... I can't stop myself), onions, peas, spuds (in grow bags this year), lettuces, radishes, golden beetroot, spring onions, pak choi, parsnips and celery.
This will be our 3rd year of GYO and the first time EVER I tried parsnips. I chitted the seed (threw a couple of sprinkles onto some wet kitchen roll in a tuppaware, put the lid on loosely and left it on the widowsill) as the seeds were over a year old. It took about 2-3 weeks but nearly all the seeds chitted and so I put them into the ground, chit side down - if you see what I mean. 100% success
I was surprised as parsnip seeds are supposed to be useless after a year, but hey.
I've also snuck in some nasturtiums and sweetpeas too, to attract the pollenators.
We're really lucky as we rent an old small holding so we have loads of space (our LL is our neighbour and very generous with her land).
Hope everyone has a smashing Jubillee... despite the weather!0 -
Yes good year for me also re parsnips. Runners romping away. Potatoes took a long time coming thru.
Leeks sown straight into the ground are good, about 2" high.
Rhubarb is only 2nd year so still using neighbours (with permission LOL). Not so many Vic plums this year and Laxton Fortune apples will be less. Otherwise considering the funny weather so far not too bad.0 -
I'm reading this thread with complete envy! Nothing grows in my garden, not even roses! - so am restricted to my windowsill collection of herbs, and a flower display inc baskets at the front of the house. My scotch bonnet chilli plant (bought last year) has yet to yield. It created a single bud a couple of months ago, but that dropped off quickly

I was looking at the price of strawberries yesterday - so expensive even when on "offer", and completely devoid of taste - and was thinking how much cheaper it would be to grow them.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

I cant say I am good gardener but I can say I get a lot of enjoyment out it. Some things I grow are very productive, some are showing potential and others I just dont seem to be able to get to grips with, but practice makes perfect.0 -
Interesting blog. Have you tried to find a wider template with extra columns to give the blog a more professional look and extra space? If not try looking at the free ones on ourblogtemplates.com they're free: choose the one you want, download, save the template and then upload in html editor in blogger. you can change all the colours and typfaces in advanced editor too. If you need any assistance pm me. I design blogs and websites.0

is your garden north or south facing or mixed?
what type of garden and soil do you have?
imho as long as strawbs get enough sun they will grow in all kinds of soil (mine is mostly gravel and sand).Freedom is the freedom to say that 2+2 = 4 (George Orwell, 1984).

thanks Heirloom. I had a look and tried one and then tried the others in blogger which have changed since I created the blog. I am not sure now if I have a an OBT or blogger template but I like it a bit more.0
