AA breakdown and topcashback trap!

Hi,

I purchased AA breakdown cover through topcashback for £30 expecting a £19 cash back. The cash back didn't track and finally topcashback said they have submitted a missing cashback claim to AA. When I called AA, they said they have nothing to do with the topcashback so they can't do anything about it. So I said it's fine, topcashback is not working and I will cancel my AA breakdown cover because it's not as cheap as I thought it would be. When I asked to cancel the AA breakdown cover within the 14 day cooling off period, they guy on the phone said that they will charge me £20 admin fee for cancellation. It's actually in the policy document hidden in the small print that directs you to two different sections before seeing it. Now I am trapped!! I can't cancel the cover and I paid the regular price on the website. If I get the cashback eventually that will change my opinion but they say it can take several months. Be aware that AA breakdown don't take responsibility of the topcahsback offers and AA breakdown cancellation costs £20 even within the cooling off period!!!

    No trap.

If you read Topcashback website it clearly states that cashback is ultimately not guaranteed and you should not let it dictate your purchase.

It also states do not contact the AA as they will not deal with it, but to contact them and they will take it up.

14 days is nothing in cashback terms, you are obviously being quite impatient ,you should give them a chance to sort it out which in my experience they usually do.

Cashback should never be considered as a given but as a bonus.

I took out AA cover for £28.00 via Topcashback in November and received my £21.21 cashback in April.

You have to make sure you have cleared your cookies before you do the transaction, so that you are sure that it went through TCB.

^^ What they say. You should not view cashback deals via Quidoc and TCB as guaranteed and thus never purchase something based solely on the fact you're going to get cashback. Look at it as a bonus nothing more.

Sorry but the web page of topcashback where I clicked to go to the AA website doesn't sound like it's not guaranteed. It says it can take a while and that's fine. But when I didn't see any info about the cash back I am expecting within the cooling off period, I decided to cancel the policy. But I can't because the AA charges £20 for that. Yes it tells about it in the small print. Yet doesn't make it right. I wouldn't have bought this policy if it there wasn't a cashback deal. The topcashback forums and this forum is full off posts about people not getting their AA cashback. I wish I've read them before.

It does say it isn't guaranteed. I use it often and, so far, only a purchase from Staples has not paid up.

I've found TCB to be quite good with manual claims. I have two claims outstanding at the moment (both are about a year old) but TCB say it's still being chased.

They also have a fair play policy so all may not be lost. If you're reasonable with them they will help you.

Looks like I learned it the hard way. Crabman, what do you mean by TCB is good with manual claims while you have two outstanding about a year old? Is it 2 out of 100 you didn't get? What about the admin cost of the AA for cancellation within the cooling off period? £20 cancellation fee for a £30 policy within the cooling off period. Again it mentions it in the policy even though it is cleverly hidden. Is this also fair and normal guys?

Just be patient - all above is sound advice. Cashback sites are quite clear that they are not guaranteed. I did AA through Quidco last year and it paid out after a couple of months

Its only because your policy is the cheapest one that the admin fee seems disporportinalety high. if you had takena a £150 policy it wouldn't seem so would it but paperwork etc would be the same, hence why fee is the same

just give it time and get your cashback as you probably will assuming you followed the correct procedures

I mean compared with other cashback sites I have used they are more helpful and their fair play policy is reassuring.

I've probably made about 15 transactions via TCB in the last year and 2 have not tracked. I'm yet to have a manual claim declined by any cashback site.
