Hi, hoping someone will be able to offer some guidance.

I would like to organise/host a fancy dress charity event in aid of charity. I have lots of ideas of different ways to raise money on the night, e.g. sell entry tickets, provide a raffle etc. However, I don't know where to actually start.

I'm not working at the moment and I'm would like to utilise my time positively, but obviously funds are tight/non-existant.

I guess my question is, do I need to have a lot of money myself in order to organise something like this, or is it a matter of trying to get funding via people's good will??

Any links, signposting or advise welcome :)

Well, you do need a budget -- tickets, publicity, venue. It isn't something that can successfully be done alone and without any previous experience. Best would be to offer your time and energy to a local charity which is already organising events.

I already volunteer for a local charity, however they don't ever seem to organise events like this, which is a shame as I know from an old work colleague that he made so much for charity hosting these sorts of events.
I heard that when you do something like this for charity, often people will help donate things. Eg I can probably get a venue for free if it's for charity. And also going to bigger organisations for raffle donations etc.
Seems like a losing battle if you need to have money in order to raise money for charity :(

NurseMoneySaver1122 I love the idea and while it is easier if you have money it is not impossible if you don't.

    Ist thing which cause?

    Then venue and when?

When it comes to printing speak to you local printers try and do a deal it is for charity and if they print the tickets etc they can put an add on the back?

They you need to get freebies.

Face book is a good way to get free local support, linkedin, twitter all good and free.

Please do not give up as if you do it would be a real shame . As i said it is easier with money but not impossible without it will just take a bit more hard work.
Happiness, Health and Wealth in that order please!:A

Thank you BJV for your kind reply. I have always wanted to organise such event, and I know the potential for raising money is sooooo high! So I'm not going to give up...if I fail, at least I tried.I am going to speak to a few venues to get started.

Just not sure how far away to book it...I want to allow enough time to organise it all etc???
