Parking Fine passed to debt collector will affect my credit rating?

Funnily enough, nobody has pointed out your rights. You have to GIVE permission for your private data to be disclosed to third parties, and this includes Credit Reference Agencies. Since it don't go to court (and you didn't lose) there is no Scottish equivalent of a CCJ to bother about.
Glasgow City Council would have to ask whether you minded them passing your non payment of fine to a CRA, and you would have to have agreed to this. Since this didn't happen, they can tell no-one, and your 'secret' is safe.0 -
Thanks Buzby, never having been to Scotland (on the to-do list) I am never quite sure if some procedures are different.
Certainly in England/Wales, a Council PCN NEVER creates a CCJ.0 -
So, why would anyone bother to pay a council parking fine, let alone one from a private company? At least with clamps there was a reason to pay.
I can't see how parking companies are staying in business now that clamping has been outlawed. Is it just a case of the public being ignorant of the rules?
I suppose they sell the debts to debt-recovery firms who rely on intimidation in order to get paid.0 -
Council tickets are covered by legislation, if you ignore one of those they probably WILL end up with a legitimate warrant and bailiff siezing your car.
Private tickets are not and the revenue does tend to be largely generated from people who are ignorant of civil law.Je Suis Cecil.0
