Leg to stand on? Bought a car. Now all's gone wonky...

Hi all, my head's somewhat battered from this, so I'm after some clear thinking if possible.
31/03/12 - I bought a 2009 Mazda6 2.2d SL from Black Horse Car Sales (Birmingham), on the basis it had full *manufacturers* service history (although can't find the ad on the Black Horse site, or carpages.co.uk site any more). The Salesman confirmed it had full Mazda service history, due to it being an ex-lease vehicle (for which full service histories are apparently required to be maintained).
05/04/12 - I read about a timing chain recall issue, emailed my local Mazda dealership immediately to book the car in for checking (despite 36 month service taking place only 3k miles previously... before my ownership), and have an email from them to advise this was checked during the last service, was found to be within acceptable limits, and that they wouldn't look at it again until either the car required repair work, or the 48 month service was due). I replied, specifically stating my dissatisfaction with this, explaining that if I were to have timing chain issues in the meantime, I wouldn't be a happy boy.
13/04/12 - Manufacters warranty expired (although the 3 month Car Care Plan warranty from Black Horse started from this date).
17/05/12 - Travelling to work, oil pressure warning light comes on, engine starts making seriously bad noises. I checked the oil, all fine. Car savvy colleague had a listen to the engine, and recommended I don't drive it. I therefore called the AA, and was towed to my local Mazda dealership on that same day. They advised they wouldn't be able to even look at the car until Tuesday 22/06/12.
23/05/12 - After intial disgnostics, Mazda call me to advise that the timing chain's stretched (whodhavebelievedit?!), and would need to spend approx another 4 hours (£90 inc VAT per hour) labour, stripping the engine, to ascertain if any further damage had been caused. They proceeded to do so. They advise that for this to be covered under the manufacturers warranty, the vehicle would need to have a full service history.
- Called Mazda dealership down in Bristol, who last serviced the vehicle, and they advised of the other recall issues addressed, but that timing chain wasn't checked, and there are no notes on their records to say it was check, and found to be within acceptable limits).
- I call previous owner (company who leased the vehicle), and he said he recalls having the first service carried out at a local garage (not Mazda), but paid for this himself, and claimed costs back through the business. He can't find record of this service.
- I called Black Horse Cars, who are also trying to locate evidence of a first year service. Still nothing.
24/05/12 - Mazda email me to advise that they confirm the timing chain's stretched and that tensioner has extended beyond its maximum, and that the oil strainer is covered in carbon deposits. They also advise that they can make a claim under the Mazda warranty, but this would need the car to have a full Mazda service history (it has 2nd and 3rd year Mazda service history... but still can't find anything for 1st year).
Basically, how would you lovely folk proceed?
To pay the repair bill myself, could set me back by a couple of thousand, or more.
While all this is happening, I have no car, and Mazda have no courtesy cars.
Your thoughts, and knowledge would be hugely appreciated, and I'm so sorry for this being so wordy.

I would not get involved in sorting out the mess and go straight down the Sale of goods route.
The car must be fit for purpose, it was not clearly and it is the dealers problem, not yours to unpick the details.
Contact the dealer who sold you the car and tell them you want your money back.
Let them worry about the timing chain.
If the oil light has been on, the engine is Knackered, trust me.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

Thanks for replying. Do you think it's that straight cut?
Not having *proof* of it being sold on the basis of having full Mazda Service History, I don't know how I can take this route.0 -
You've had it less than six months.0

^^^ and as such the seller must prove that the fault(s) were not present at the point of sale. Warranty is only an extension of your statutory rights, it dosn't replace or reduce them.PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only.
