Sky customers charged differently?

As of September I have been paying Sky 31.50 a month, for broadband lite, phone and tv.

Three weeks ago I was informed that I had exceeded my broadband allowance and had been automatically upgraded to unlimited at an additional cost of 7.50. As we are forced to pay in advance for our line rental, my bill has effectively increased from 31.50 to 45 pounds this month and my tariff changed against my wishes.

I was also told that I had been emailed to warn me that I was approaching my limit. However having checked with my email provider yahoo, I can say that I have received any email correspondence from Sky. This also follows months of receiving calls from Sky sales agents to upgrade my to sky sports, insurance etc.

What is bizarre is having shared this information with friends who have sky, it becomes apparent that some have better tariffs than others. At the sametime I am also bombarded with advertising from Sky offering better deals than what I currently have.

How do you play such an unscrupulous monopole at their own game?

Sky would have sent the warning letters to your @sky.com email address have you checked it?
That gum you like is coming back in style.

I was in the same position 2 x, they emailed me on my hotmail address. The emails are automated as soon as you go over your allowance, there is no one actually there typing it in.

Why did you check with yahoo, why not just check your inbox/deleted emails.

Cant see what the problem is really, you use the service, you know the rules, you pay for it, same as the rest of us.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

In terms of the different people on different rates that'll depend on each persons negotiating skills etc. Sky is known as being one of the companies with the biggest room for manoeuvre when it comes to cost per month. Ring them, say due to recent circumstance Sky might not be the best option anymore, thinking of leaving, give me better offer... please.

Firstly I did check both my sky email and yahoo email neither one returned a sky notification, I even contacted yahoo to check this. They should notify you before you hit 2gb secondly I only surf the net and email so I am perplexed that I could go over it. I don't mind being charged extra per mega byte but to change my monthly tariff is a cheap way of generating additional revenue as the majority of months I am way under 2MB and it is not worth paying the extra 7.50. Think about it its an extra 87.50 annual revenue

When you go over your allowance the first time you are sent an email notifying you of this but do not increase your tarrif. The second time you go over your allowance you are upgraded. You also have access to your usage data online at the sky website. If you feel that you have not got the emails, you can check the address, dates and times that they were sent on your mysky. If you can't do that you can call sky and they will tell you the content of the emails and the date and times they were sent. If you wish you can also as them to put you back onto the light tarrif.

I would suggest using the notification tool on mysky. You set an email address to have a warning sent to at a usage you determined.

If you feel your usage is high, check your router settings to ensure that you are set up to be on a secure network. Sometimes people steal wireless data.

You lost control when you agreed to a DD. it places them in control and the can do exactly what they just did. Without this, they would have to restrict your service and be denied the additional money they crave.

With Sky in total control of the funds they take from you, you can expect this to continue - or terminate the DD or switch to another supplier who treats customers fairly - rather than a cash cow to be milked when they want.

Sky BB Lite is deliberately devised to be inadequate for 99% of customers. 2GB (not 2MB) goes nowhere. It's a classic bait and switch scam.
