Just had a qoute to replace our stove.

Heats 10 rads and does hot water. Was told best stove for the job is a woodwarm 20kw boiler stove. Stove alone is over 3k, plus hearth, plumbing it in( rads etc all already there), liner to be put in. Total cost 6k.

Seems so much. If i lived somewhere other than the !!!! end of no where i could have a combi boiler for less.

Anyone knowledgable on these things? AM i just being tight?

FWIW current stove a Yeoman and does the job well but it is 20++ yrs old. I am kinda thinking if its not broken dont fix it. Just dont want to tidy it up, needs new hearth etc and then have it all nice and it goes to stove heaven next month.

From what you have said I would tidy up your old stove, not much to go wrong with them other than the usual bits like firebricks, rope seals etc.
The most costly bit would be to replace the boiler within the stove.
A new hearth can be done for little cost by someone with a bit of DIY skill.
I recon you would possibly save yourself 5k off the total cost of replacement and cant see a new stove being that much more efficient than the old one.

    Hope this helps.

    Willie.
