Yeah wasn't much else I could do, that's probably the idea, make it as difficult as possible to leave.0

make it as difficult as possible to leave.
From the employers perspective this is counterproductive on many levels - why would they seek to do that? Re-advertise, short list candidates, arrange interviews, select preferred candidate, training/ induction, this costs time and money.Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0 -

Not that I can see what else you could have done tbh. Good luck with it.
Thought the date had been changed after asking for a different date. Perhaps I haven't been paying sufficient attention.0 -

"Counter-productive"? You've explained why the employer would want to make it difficult for an employee to leave.0 -

Call in sick OP.
It is the same at my place with regards to doctors/dentists. managers slammed down when they realised that people were taking half day (paid) off to go dentists, not just the hour or so they were expecting it to take. In their words it is not a legal requirement to give time off for this stuff.
One of our staff members was refused leave for an appointment after a routine smear test returned abnormal results and she was given an emergency gyny appointment, and she had to cancel and couldn't get another appointment for six months. I dont know what happend to her, as she handed in her notice a few months after. The opposite of what you know...is also true0
