I got a job interview next Weds afternoon which I'll need to get out for, working 8-5 doesn't give any time to attend things after work. I'm not sure what way to play it, the boss regularly refuses to let people out to attend doctors/dentist, yes that's the kind of !!!!! he is, do I tell the truth and risk getting sacked? I'm am only in the job 4 weeks:( But number 1 aim is to get the hell outta dodge.

Well if you lie about where you are going and get caught out then the employer has a good reason to dismiss you, and then your benefits will be sanctioned.0

Heh, I don't make the rules, so don't blame me for them! If you are caught lying about where you are going then the employer will be able to legitimately dismiss you for lying, not for having an interview. And if they tell the JobCentre that you said you had gone to the doctors / dentists when you hadn't, then you can kiss goodbye to benefits - you were dismissed for lying, not for going to an interview.0

Try to book a day or half-day off work.Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!0

I don't like doing it but if you know they regularly refuse leave for appointments (and you can't book off a half/full day) then rather than trying the 'doctors' thing you have a couple of options:
 1) Call in sick.
 2) Call in with 'family emergency' 'house emergency' or something similar. This is easier in the Winter with burst pipes etc but a real one which has happened to a member of my family lately is 'If I don't stay in for the electrician my house will burn down' due to a faulty plug socket!
Both of these it matters how you handle it and what the chance of being checked up on/running into someone by accident are.
Either still have the same problem as Marybelle has mentioned really though.0
