02 contract phone stolen

Hi

My daughter had her phoen stolen. I phoned O2 earlier this morning to tell them and asked them to put a block on the phone.
They did not ask for a IMEI number so i am not sure whether they would automatically put a block on the sim and handset.

What sahll I do??

  • O2 should cancel the sim and you should not get charged for any calls.

They should know the IMEI number if they supplied the phone. If they block that as well the phone will be useless unless it is sent to India or someplace.

I don't think you need to do anything else.

Kids and phones!! what would you do with them?

all the mobile networks pair your current phone with the sim in use so you simply need to tell them your phone is stolen and they will put the bar in place.

But a word of warning, any calls made immediately after the phone being stolen up to the point of your daughter realising might be billable. Hopefully there wasnt any.. but there have been cases when people have realised a few days later and realised they had a huge bill too.

It always advisable to enable the PIN feature on the simcard so if your phone is stolen (they sometimes turn the phone off immediately after the theft) the sim is at least useless.
    ummm...

A lot of new phones allow you to have the keypad automatically lock with a security code. Mine locks after 1 minute, it would be near impossible to make a chargeable call if you stole my phone.

If you aren't sure then just call back with the IMEI which should be on your contract, that will at least prevent the thief from having such a easy time with selling on the phone.
