Network providers definition of "Unlimited" or "All You Can Eat" Data???

Options
Hi all

I've been trying to browse online to find out what mobile phone netwoek providers definitions are for "Unlimited" or "All You Can Eat" Data. However, I keep finding old documents.

I particuarly would like to know what the cap is for:

Orange (unlimited data),
T Mobile (unlimited internet) &
Three (all you can eat data),

as I am looking into potential contracts with either of these.

If anyone knows this information, or where I can get it, I would very much appreciate the help.

Thanks

I believe the Orange fair use policy is 500MB, T-Mobile depends on the tariff, it starts from 1GB (but they claim they won't charge you if you go over this), Three "All you can eat" essentially has no limit, although they suggest in their T&Cs that you would not be able to do better than 1000GB in a month!

Giffgaff is PAYG (O2), not contract, but pretty much unlimited and just for £10+ p.m.

    Thanks for replying.

So with Orange for example, does that mean when you see a plan with 500mb data, and another plan with unlimited data, you are actually getting the same deal??? If so, that's outrageously misleading to customers

I think the unlimited ones are 'unlimited' until the network considers that you are 'abusing' the service - large volumes of data in a short time, etc. - then they throttle or block it.

Just look in the giffgaff forums if you want to see how 'unlimited' it actually is and the daily threads about it that come up. Its the same for every network though. Maybe labelling it as Internet 'Flat' (subject to fair use policy) as they do in Europe would be a better term but then that doesn't sound as exciting as 'unlimited' to the marketers.

I understand what networks mean that fair use is there to prevent people abusing it.. but advertising something as unlimited when it in fact has a limit surely is wrong? Rather than capping the amount of data why don't they just cap the speed for a while should you download a large amount of data.. that way people are still getting an unlimited amount but its a friendly warning to cut down how much they use.

3's one plan is definately unlimited, and includes tethering too.

Im on the one plan and use tethering to download from love film instant to my laptop on a almost daily basis and have experianced no slowing down of my connection - although it does have odd 'bad' days, but doesnt seem to have any connection to my usage etc.
