Damn those PPI Telepests!

I apologise if this has already been mentioned in these forums, but I couldn't find anything after searching.

We are getting around about 5 calls a day from PPI companies - these are unsolicited calls and are always automated until you press 'X' to show interest in claiming.

I have never and will never need to claim for this and although the company names are different, the telephone numbers are all very similar. The automated message mentions pressing a number on the keypad to the taken off of their list. This NEVER works and cuts me off straight away!

A few times now I've pressed the number to talk to someone to make a claim just I can talk to someone and ask them to take me off their list because the automated way isn't working. To annoy me even more, they either put the phone straight down on me or just quickly splurt out "oksurei'lldothatforyou" before cutting me off.

Do I really need to do a turd on their office doorstep before they stop calling me, or is their (hopefully) an alternative means of getting rid of these new scummy telepests?

  •:mad::mad:I had a text message at 6.30am this morning of the stupid idiots telling me I could claim £2800! I've already won my claim and god knows how they would know how much I would be entitled to. They are beyond a joke. Not impressed at all
Pity there is no way to report them for harrassement but as you say you can't get hold of anyone and they charge you a fortune to ring or text 'STOP' back. At least you can delete texts but can't stop the calls. Don't know how they have my mobile number either! Grrrrrrr

    Hi there

Are you registered with TPS as well?

If not then register free with them and this should take affect by about 28 days, however it does not stop all calls, but you can report persistant calls with these (if they leave a tel number and not withheld) and to what I am aware of the Information Commissioners Office as well.

    Details below.

Hope this helps, but I know the feeling, it can be very annoying indeed.

    Good luck.

  • OobieDoobieDoo - unfortunately, I can't text as It's my home phone number! :( Ha yes, had the same though - early morning and late night, beyond a joke!

Thank you so much di3004, will register with that service now - fingered X'ed it goes some way in getting rid of these pests.

I love it how they try and snagg you in saying "You could claim £xxx"... I prefered the old days of viagra spam emails, just as useless for me, but much easier to ignore. :)

I registered with TPS. Didnt make a bit of difference. When they ring now and ask for me I just say shes not in, Im minding the dog.
  • I am ex-directory and makes no difference. My normal spiel is either put phone to one side, get the dogs and ask them to 'speak' :rotfl::rotfl: The other one is, I let them rattle their sales pitch and then advise I am already claiming which normally ends up with something like this -

Sales peep: OK, so have you had any claims paid yet
    Me: Yes, one
Sales peep: How much did you get if you don't mind me asking
    Me: 'x'
Sales peep: I could have got you more, I always get compensation on top
Me: You mean your compensation right?
Sales peep: What do you mean?
Me: Well your compensation, the 30% average you will take off me for filling out and sending same letter I did.
Sales person: Normally hangs up :D

  • Haha thanks for the feedback guys. Hope TPS works, but failing that, I obviously need to get less annoyed with it and try and annoy them in return... hopefully that will also stop them calling.
