Vodafone reduced contract price due to their f-up!

Hey just wanted to share my success with getting my contract reduced due to an error Vodafone made when upgrading.
I upgraded a month ago to replace my iphone4 16GB. I wasn't fussed about the iphone4s so I asked for exactly the same phone and they said I could have it on the same price plan (as I could sell the old one for a pretty penny and I was happy otherwise).
They sent me the phone and all seemed ok. Until I got rid of the old handset and looked at the boxes and realised the new one was 8GB not 16GB. Not very happy!
Rang them yesterday to tell them. As I was out of the '7 day period' for changing my mind about my upgrade they said they shouldn't really do anything. I pointed out if was their error and that I was paying the same price for a less expensive model than before over two years since it's been released and that it makes no sense AT ALL. They then said I could have the iphone4s but pay £60. Again I said I shouldn't have to pay for their mistake to get the same (or better) phone.
I asked instead if they'd consider reducing my monthly contract cost as an alternative and he said they probably could but would need to check with his boss. The guy put me on hold for yonks and then said he'd have to call me back as his manager was on another line.
No call back. :wall:
So just called them again this morning and explained all the above to another person in that department and that his colleague didn't call me back. He put me on hold a lot and asked me to clarify a few things, including the fact that they'd broken their contract with me by sending me the wrong phone.
Eventually he said I could downgrade to £15.49 per month from £42.50 and keep the same tariff. Obviously I agreed (thats £22 saved a month, £350 over the course of the contract!)
Just goes to show that if you're polite but firm and don't take stuff lying down that you can actually get a fair outcome when something goes wrong.
It's not the first time I've had problems with Vodafone but at least this time they've tried to make amends.
On a side note (it made me laugh) I asked the date my contract ends with them and when the guy gave it to me he said "So you will be ending the contract with us when you can?" Not sure his boss would want him to be encouraging people to leave! Just made me chuckle.

What they say on the phone and what happens at bill time can be very different. I will be getting offers confirmed in future.0

I have had a text message confirming it (I've taken a snap of the text as well). Do you think I should also get it in writing? I usually do it all online...

Probbly a minor point now but what exactly did you ask for, Apple don't sell Iphone 4 in any variant other than 8GB and haven't since they released the 4S.
If you asked for Iphone 4 you got what you asked for and got just got very lucky....0
