BG used to give you £25 off your next bill, I would have thought that the compensation will be reclaimed from the meter owners. No one should accept the cheeky 8 am to 8pm slot, macman you have joined a club with a very large membership, sat wasteing your day for nothing. I ve been hearing this tale of no- shows for years. The meter fitter ( if he had your phone number from the supplier) could at least have phoned you. The real cost to National Grid will be higher, but nowhere near the cost of the occupier losing a days holiday/pay
They have been trying to switch my meter for a while now but I am hanging on untill they tell me its a smart meter so I don t get mucked about again a year later to change the G4 metric
But it wasn't my supplier that requested the appointment for a meter change. I received a letter 3 weeks ago from NGM giving a date for the work and (naively) assumed that they would turn up. I don't see how this is done in conjunction wit EDF, as if so they would have had my name and phone number. The original appointment letter was simply addressed to 'Gas Consumer' at my address. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
yes macman, they v changed the procedure lately and omitted the suppliers name from the bookings, they used to be a letter from United Utilities with an even bigger heading to the letter with BG logo, on behalf of British Gas, so all the householders phoned the supplier first. Maybe the suppliers finally got sense and stopped National Grid and their contractors (United Utilities) from sullying their image. I ve got the same letter myself now, and theres no mention of who the supplier is, so its direct to National Grid for compensation. As i said in my recent post about the same thing, how common this practice is, treating the public like idiots. Its no co incidence you v been let down. They can change my meter when its time for a smart meter only, otherwise I m never in. They have access to your phone number from your supplier because I met enough people who told me they had recieved calls from the fitter to say he would be delayed0

I too am currently with edf and have been getting the same letters as you got. I have switched to Brit Gas this month in the hope of getting a smart electric and gas meter as they have been fitting them in my area for two and half years now. I dont think EDF plan to fit smarts till 2014. So apart from a cheaper tariff I would like to get the meter swaps done once only because that metric meter you will be getting will soon be switched again and have you waiting in all day once again.
I think Terry mentioned compo is £22 and another £20 if not paid within 10 days0 -
Claim has gone in, I'll keep you posted. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Is it a portfolio update letter, if so it will be ngrid to claim from or SGN or NGNDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

Do meter fitters get paid if they attend someones home and there is no access?. If they do, this would be an incentive to claim they attended.
I recently had a water meter replaced and a asbestos survey. Both contractors telephoned me before leaving their previous appointment to check I was at home. One was two hours earlier than planned but as I was home the work was completed early.
An 8am to 8 pm appointment from anyone is ridiculous. Tell them you will be at home for an hour between 8am and 8pm and they can wait outside for you.0 -
There was access-I was there all day.No free lunch, and no free laptop0

I had to get a new meter, as the old one was damaged in a house fire.
I thought the insurance covered it and sorted it out. But since learnt if you have a house fire and need the leccy reconnected, it's your responsibility!
Be aware of that if you make an insurance claim and make sure it's added on at the beginning!
Anyway, I arranged for it to be replaced, but due to an admin error, Eon forgot to tell Scottish Hydro to do it. So I sat there in an empty house (well sat in my car in the drive) all day for nothing.
Eon very kindly gave me back the £50 fee, but no compensation for the hassle of having to travel miles to get to the house and wait all day!A friend is someone who understands your past, believes in your future, and accepts you just the way you are.0
