Sexually Explicit Spam

Sounds a bit oooarrr, but I kept getting really rude spam, some well disgusting / explicit titles (lesbian, threesome type stuff, "teens F** *ing"etc), anyway I daren't open as I'm thinking about the fact i'd be opening from a dodgey source but its getting worse, I did consider opening and replying demanding they remove me from their lists but is this the thing to do?. I must delete about 10 a week from my yahoo account. I have never been on a dodgey site (ever) although I do use facebook, trip advisor, ebay etc, so could it be a hack from there?
My oldest has just been allowed facebook as is now legally old enough but my concern is will she get spammed this way?

Never reply to them, as this only confirms your email address is active. Never post your email address public online, and I don't think there's any reason to on facebook either.

It could be worth you getting a new email account f the amount is overwhelming.

Have never given my email out publicly, but have been hacked into on facebook a few times, once i got pages of "screaming lesbians" emails but again just deleted. Glad I stuck with my gut instinct not to open any! I have a work email but tend to use that very cautiously, ie use for paypal instead of own as I thought it might provide better security (NHS one)

Use a secure password on facebook and somewhere in there is options to restrict which other devices can access your account, including an option where you have to authorise each device. This will limit the login locations to your own devices. Then make sure you ALWAYS lock your PC/phone when left online.

Tell you what, forward it all onto me and I'll review it all for you and save you from the blushes... ooor arrrr lol

Can you setup some inbox rules in Yahoo to simply delete it or mark it as spam? Is there a common title, sender word etc?

Ill try that, thanks. (Might have to get daughter to show me!) I suppose I could just ignore my spam box as well as i suppose nothing of any value would land in there.

Thanks for this - really appreciate. Have set it up to empty immediately. fortunately not getting much that doesnt go straight into spam, so fingers crossed.

It makes me cringe as "teens F** *ing" seems to a common theme, but I suppose it depends how old you are (no offence meant, as I have teenaged children and thats eeek thought!)

    Thanks:beer:

You may occasionally receive a genuine initial email from somebody that will get diverted to spam, and they will think you don't want to know.

I find my MSE news finishes up in the spam box, not a problem for me capturing it

Now teenage lesbians? never had that sort of spam :D

I've always found it best to use an email "client" (application) such as Mail (on a Mac) and Thunderbird (on Windows). Some use Opera on both. Then configure a good filtering system on that.

Once these morons get hold of your email address, spamming to it is very difficult to stop at source. Your email address gets circulated endlessly.

Your most effective remedy is to set up a new email account, if that's a practical proposition for you.

My Golden Rule is never to use nor tell anyone my main email address. Keep that a secret between you and your ISP or email provider.

Then create secondary "sub-accounts" and configure those to forward incoming mail automatically to your mail account. Usefully, all that work then gets done automatically by the ISP or email provider, instead of by your own computer.

If/when ever one of these sub-accounts starts getting spammed, either close it down or just switch off the forwarding to your main email account and forget about it.

Mac Mail has a very useful "Bounce" button which returns the email to the sender with a convincing official message that says your account does not exist.
